june 2024 "tonight we have a very special guest joining us. please welcome... camilla rose!" jimmy kimmel points to the entry way as camilla walks out onto the stage bringing the audience into an uproar. she plops down into the comfy chair next to jimmy's desk. "hi everyone!" she smiles and waves.
"soo camilla, it's been a while since you've been on the show. tell us what you've been up to." jimmy was right. camilla hasn't been on 'jimmy kimmel live!' since 2021 when she first started making music.
she smiles shyly, nodding her head agreeing with jimmy's words. "well jimmy, i turned 22 last month, my new album comes out next week, and... oh! i won my first grammy" she gives the crowd a huge smile as they applaud her once again.
"well it seems like you've been up to a lot" he adds with w grin. "tell us about the grammys."
"i was super nervous! i got to perform a song from my ep in front of so many people who inspire me everyday, it was just an absolute bizarre experience. my younger self would never believe me if i told her this would happen." she lets out a slight chuckle to avoid the happy tears beginning to form. "when they called my name... i thought i misheard them. my parents kept telling me to get up but i felt like i was stuck" she laughs again, this time at herself.
jimmy smiles "that's amazing, really! you've come so far since i've last seen you."
"yeah, i have" a slight blush forms on her cheeks. in her head, life still feels surreal. it was much different when she was putting out songs for fun and had a few hundred people around the world support her but now she has an army behind her and an academy award on her shelf.
with his eyes shooting towards the camera, jimmy says "we will be right back with our best new artist of 2024. give it up for camilla rose everyone." cami smiles and waves at the camera as the audience begins to applaud again and jimmy leans in closer to her. "i really am proud of you kid."
her eyes wander to his face "thank you jimmy."
"so camilla, through these last few years of creating music, who would you say was your biggest inspiration?" jimmy asks causing her face to light up knowing her exact answer.
"billie of course, billie eilish." she says receiving another round of applause. "i literally have not stopped listening to hit me hard and soft since it came out. she's amazing, beyond words."
jimmy nods agreeing, the world knows billie is amazing. "i'm not sure if you seen but there's a clip of her applauding you at the grammy's and speaking about you in an interview. it seems she's inspired as well."
"i've seen her cheering for me, not the interview though. i'd have to check that out for sure!" cami smiles in disbelief that the billie eilish is inspired by her music. the thought of billie even listening to what she creates makes her head spin.
when camilla gets home, she texts larri to come over with some takeout and sleepover which of course he agreed to. while she waits for him, she decides to watch the interview jimmy was talking about.
she typed 'billie eilish talking about camilla rose' in her tiktok search bar and clicked the first video to pop up.
"camilla is such a big inspiration to me, i've listened to her music since 2021 and have loved her since. she's so cute, i wish i could just like.. put her in my pocket and protect her forever. she deserves the world" are the words she hears slip from billie's lips.
a faint warmness creeps onto her face with a grin as the video replays itself. one of the biggest artists in the world were inspired by her yet she felt her work was merely enough to deserve just a listen from someone like billie. she felt nothing but grateful to be in this position at this moment.
her thoughts were cut short when larri walked through her door, letting himself in with the key cami had made for him. "honey, i'm home" he yelled causing an echo to travel through the room. he sets the brown bag of takeout down on the kitchen island before laying down next to camilla on her couch. "what are you watching?"
she looks up at him with a smile. "just listen" she says before playing the interview clip for him again.
larri's eyes open wide as a smile matching cami's forms on his face. "you should text her girl" he suggests making her stomach turn at the thought of the idea.
"are you crazy?!" she turns off her phone and throws it next to her. "i would die inside if she didn't reply" she rolls her eyes.
"and if she does reply?" and comfortable silence fills the room. "exactly" larri adds. "you never know, and it doesn't hurt to try. you could always unsend it tomorrow."
"okay.. fine!" cami smiles and excitedly picks up her phone darting straight for her instagram.

"there" she says showing the phone to larri, as he grins in response.
it was one of those nights where everything felt effortless. the kind of night that could only be spent with a best friend— comfortable, loud, and full of silly inside jokes. camilla and larri had sprawled out on her bed, surrounded by the takeout food he brought earlier that night. the low hum of her record player played in the background, mixing with their laughter and the occasional sigh from larri when he found yet another meme that made him laugh harder than he should.
"okay, seriously," larri said, holding up his phone with a mischievous grin. "i just saw the most ridiculous tiktok. watch this."
camilla rolled her eyes, already knowing what was coming. larri had been obsessed with stupid videos lately, especially ones with people dancing in public or acting completely ridiculous for views. but she couldn't help it— when larri laughed, camilla laughed too.
the tiktok started, and a guy in a full chicken costume was running through a grocery store, flapping his arms and clucking loudly. larri started howling with laughter, clutching his stomach.
"why is this so funny?" camilla said, trying to stifle her own giggles. "it's literally just a guy in a chicken suit."
"i don't know!" larri gasped, still laughing. "it's the chaos! it's like... i can't even explain it. i just love it."
camilla shook her head, still chuckling. "you're so weird, but it's why i love you."
larri smirked. "you say 'weird,' i say 'unique.'"
they spent the next few hours alternating between watching random videos, eating everything in sight, and talking about everything under the sun. from camilla's text to billie, to larri's plans to start his own podcast, the conversation never stalled. they'd been best friends for years, and the comfort they found in each other's company felt like second nature. just two best friends, in a cozy bedroom, enjoying the simplicity of being together.
it was one of those perfect moments— the kind that felt like it could last forever.
i wanted to dedicate a chapter to showing camilla and larri's friendship. i've had these chapters in my drafts for the longest and i've done nothing with them so maybe posting them would help motivate me.
