She turned in her bed. She looked at her alarm clock, got up, and reached for her phone. The ring makes me wince. She read the message on the screen: "Terrorist alert needed at office now." It was from Aron. She flung off the cover and went to the bathroom to clean her teeth. It was too early to take her meds, so she shivered and went into her suitcase to get dressed. She hadn't met the entire staff yet, so this would be her first time being introduced. She walked through the glass doors into the bullpen, where she saw Arron emerge from his off across the cat walk. He spotted her. "Prentiss, please join me," he urged sternly. She nodded, placed her bags on the desk with her name on a plate, and followed the unit chief inside the round room. Everyone turned to gaze at the new girl standing in front of them. "Everybody meet agent prentiss." JJ glanced up from the file she was reading. "Other day. I've been updating her on protocol." She remarked, smiling pleasantly. Morgan was the next to speak, extending his hand to her with a mischievous smile. "Derek Morgan" . He said this while looking her up and down. She returned a polite smile and took a seat. "We can make up later. "What do we know?" Arron stated, taking a seat and glancing at the screen in front of them, which displayed the crime scene. After the debriefing she released the time .Emily sat at her desk rummaging through her bag for her pill bottle and a bottle of water that she always had on her and slipped the pill in her mouth and took a swig of water as she turned away from the team as she swallowed it down. She looked over her shoulder and no one seemed to notice and she went to sit at her desk pushing her go bag that was required under her desk to the left.
A few moments later she hears Gideon and Arron talking about her. "I don't know what she's capable of either, but we've got to find out sooner or later." Arron grumbled. "It's an interrogation, not a training exercise." Gideon said grabbing his go back and walking out his office as Arron trailed behind him watching prentiss as he walked.
On hearing her name Emily automatically stood but regretted that the moment the edges of her vision blacked slightly and stumbled only a second before regaining her balance. But unknowns to her Arron caught the little stumbling as she stood up and he frowned slightly and tiled his head at her as they walked down the stairs into the bullpen."She's the only member of the team fluent in arabic."Arron said trying to get Gideon to stop being an ass infront of the new team member who he still didn't quite trust himself. "There are other translators." Gedion argued back taking a look over at Emily who turned the second she been caught listening. "Yeah, but they haven't studied behavior." Arron argued back not taking a no for an answer no matter how many questions he asked.
"She ever have her ready bag yet?" Gideon asked back. Arron looked at the woman standing at her desk and looked down in the left corner to see a blue grey duffel bag. "My guess is there isn't much this woman's unprepared for." He said they both walked toward her desk Gideon obviously annoyed at the order to bring prentiss along. " car leaves in four minutes" he said not stopping to talk.
"Yes sir." She replied grabbing both bag and half jogging after him and Reid who was told to grab his go bag as well.Once all three of them had settled on the jet and were up in the air Gideon and Reid began to play a round of chess Emily sat opposite and watched the match play out for ten minutes before speaking. "Excuse me sir? I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate..."
Not even looking up from the chess board Gideon interpreted. "Do not thank me" he tone unfairly mean.
Even by Reid's reaction she knew this wasn't the Gideon he knew, from Emily could already convey Reid was the golden boy, the youngest and people around he treated him as much. "Sir?"
"It's not a favour!" He said back.
"Of course I know I just.."
"You're her to do a job". Gideon said placing a chess piece down and Reid made a face like he was shocked.
"Do you think the integration of Jind Allah will work in time?" Reid asked pondering his next move.
"Interrogations the root dynamic form of profiling."
Emily tried not to roll her eyes at his not answering to that question. "That's not an answer...sir." She said looking at the way Gideon looked at her annoyed.
"He's been locked away in Gitmo. He doesn't know we raided the cell's safe house. That's an advantage for us.The main thing is to get him talking about anything. Then his language and body movements will betray him. It's like this you focus on the way your opponent holds his piece. How quickly and firmly he places it. Then you watch his face and body. It'll telegraph a player's strategy, his... training, maybe his motivations." Reid looked up from the chess game taking one of Gideon's pieces. "Is that what you need us to do?" She looking at how proud Reid was of the move he just made and Emily gave him a shy smile that he reciprocated awkwardly. Emily tried to concentrate on what was being said but she found it hard to keep up with them. She reached into her normal everyday bag and grabbed a bottle of water and an electrolytes powder mix into the bottle and shook it gently not to interrupt the conversation. "No. I need you to listen. You're fluent in arabic.I won't know the nuances like you.
Every word, every phrase.Be on the lookout for subtext, ulterior meanings." Gideon said watching her try shake the water bottle filled with the powder to interpret.
"What do you want me to do?" Reid asked not really looking away from the board. "I want you to watch for tells.Non-verbals, micro-expressions.Watch him when he's comfortable and relaxed, then note the behavioral changes when he's under stress. If we can establish a baseline, we'll be able to read him once I challenge his belief systems. Before I can get him to give up where or how they'll attack, I'll first have to cause him to reveal something of himself. Game over." Gideon suddenly said and this made Reid finally look up confused. "What are you talking about?"
He said looking at Gideon buckle his seat belt so Reid did as well as the plant suddenly tilted to the right send her almost crashing into the table that just had the chess board and prices on that are scattered along the floor. She reached her hand out to stop herself from falling but the sudden pressure change made her blood pressure drop suddenly. Instead of getting back onto the couch after they levelled out she stayed there for a few seconds closing her eyes. "You okay?" Gideon asked as she stayed leaning for a moment. She nodded. "Yer all good just taking a moment."
"Gitmo's runway is perpendicular to cuban airspace, so approaching aircraft have to negotiate a... Last minute 90 degree right turn in order to land. They call it the Gitmo twist." Gideon explained. "I was winning." Reid said looking down at the chess board sad and annoyed. Emily was watching and could tell Reid was definitely not winning. "Actually, he would have had you in 3." She said finally back on her seat fully.
