“Mommy, mommy please.” I said in a raspy voice, my eyes beginning to feel heavy and the smoke making it hard to see.
“Isa!” Mom called out to me as she tried reaching her hand to me.
But then, from above her, I heard a cracking sound. We both looked up. A big chunk of wood fell right on her head.
“Mommy!!” I screamed, crying hysterically.

“Okay. It was just a dream. It was just…,” I took a deep breath, “... a dream.” I let it out and sighed.
I soon managed to stabilize my breath.
“Isabel Sánchez. Your one month streak is gone, just like that.”
I looked beside my bed, and on my headboard, there I saw a picture of my mom.
“Hi mommy.”
And suddenly, my bedroom door swung open.
“Oh, you're awake. What a miracle.” said my 16 year old little sister as she leaned against the door frame.
“You know Elena, there's this thing we do, it's called knocking. You should try it sometimes.” I said, faking my smile.
“Haha, funny.” She said as she rolled her eyes. “Dad told me to check if you're up.”
“I am. Now leave.” I said.
She mumbled something under her breath as she turned to leave.
“What was that?” I asked.
“If I wanted you to hear me, I would've been audible.” she said, as she blew me a kiss.
I smiled at her antics.
I got out of bed and got ready. I soon went to the kitchen where I met my dad.
“Good morning dad.” I said, cheerfully.
“Good morning kiddo.” He replied, smiling at me. “I made breakfast. We already ate though. It's in the microwave.”
“Thanks.” I said as I took my food out of the microwave and sat down at the dining table. “Where's Lena?” I asked.
“Oh she already left.” My dad answered, as he headed to the garage, where he fixed cars. Yes, he's a mechanic.
I guess I'm walking alone today.
As soon as I finished eating, I washed my plate, took my bag and went to the garage. My dad was already at work.
“I'll see you later dad.” I said.
“Okay kiddo. I love you.” He said while focusing on the engine of the car.
“I love you too.” I replied.
I then walked to school and in 40 minutes, I was there. I must admit, it is far.
That's when I saw Elena sitting on the truck of her boyfriend's car. He's 19 making him 3 years older than him. Gosh, I just hate this guy. He's no good and he's starting to influence Lena to do bad things. I found a cigarette in her bedroom. I still haven't told her that I know. And I definitely don't want dad to find out.
She looked at my direction and her eyes met mine. You could see that she was embarrassed. She kissed the guy's cheek and made her way into the school.
I followed her.
“Hey! Seriously Lena?” I asked her, annoyed.
“What? I'm sorry I left you. He called me and said he was outside. I couldn't turn him down.” She answered, rather nervous.
“Elena, why do you look so nervous?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I'm fine.” She said, “I'll see you later sis.”
She kissed my cheek and walked away. I could smell hints of weed from her breath. Weed, cigarettes. What next?
The bell rang, and that meant that it was time for my first class. English. That's actually a nice way to start the day. Hey, that actually rhymes.
As I was walking, some slung their arm over my shoulder. There's obviously one person who would do that. My best friend.
“Hello to you too Celine.” I said, genuinely smiling at her.
“Yeah, you kinda looked like a lost puppy.” She said, squeezing the life out of me.
“I was just thinking about Lena.” I said, sounding defeated.
“Did you tell her that you know about her smoking?” She asked, concerned.
“Not yet.” I came to a halt, “Actually, the problem is that guy she's dating.” I said, rather frustrated. “This is what he does. He dates young girls, negatively influences them and then leaves. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten into Lena's pants.”
“I mean, maybe he has.” said Celine in a playful manner.
Still sounded gross to me though.
I gently removed her arm from my shoulder and patted her hand, “Never say stuff like that.” I said, as I started walking to class again.
“Okay miss.” She said as she bowed her head.
I rolled my eyes at her antics.
Pretty soon, we got to class. We have English together. I sat down close to the window as always so I could look outside when classes start to get boring. Celine sat right behind me and in a few minutes, Mr Dubois, our English teacher arrived.
“Settle down please, I have an important announcement. We have a new student joining us. You know the rules, conduct yourselves as adults, and boys, no funny sounds, okay?” He fixed his tie and cleared his throat. “You may come in.”
And there she was. Our new student. The class gasped and I could hear murmuring.
She was wearing a black pleated mini skirt with torn stockings. She had on chunky boots and a white blouse, with a black corset. Her hair was as black as the night sky with hints of red highlights. But overall, she looked hot.
“Please introduce yourself, miss.” Said Mr Dubois.
She nodded her head at Mr Dubois. “Hello everyone. My name is Ashley Hamilton. I recently moved here. I'm hoping to make new friends and establish good relationships with you all.”
Is it me or does she kinda look uninterested in all of this?
She then stopped talking and her eyes roamed around the class.
“Am I supposed to say anything else?” She said as she folded her arms and raised her eyebrow.
“No Ashley. You can sit down.” Said Mr Dubois pointing at an empty seat.
Without hesitating, she made her way to her allocated seat. Everyone's eyes were fixated on her.
She sat down and shook her head in an attempt to fix her hair.
I couldn't help but smile. I could already tell that she is quite the character.
