They say friendship is another word for family, that when you find true friendship you should hold on to it and not let it go. But, it isn't really easy to hang on to. Not if your best friend/sister moves half way across the globe. I always thought to myself how would it be when she came back?.. Now I guess I'll know.
"Bilah," My big brother Zayan called my name. I quickly got up and adjust my head scarf to make sure it looked all right. Did I mention she's coming back in two days? I'm freaking out about it. I mean we were kids when she first left and now we're not, I know it isn't going to be the same. I know it's going to take a long time to bring back what we once had. An unbreakable friendship.
I walked down the stairs to the living room where my brother and two sisters sat. In my family I'm the middle child, I have two older brothers and two younger sisters. Fun right? Note the sarcasm. I sat in the seat in between Maryam and Maysun, staring at the large tv ahead of us. Today is one of those days where no one wants to do anything but lay in our beds and go to sleep. I on the other hand want to go outside and play soccer but can't because of the stupid whether. Why does it have to rain!?
"What is it that you want Zay?" I asked after getting comfortable in the couch.
"Oh I was going to ask if you could get me something to eat," He stated while flipping through the channels on the tv. I couldn't help but laugh, does this boy think I'm his maid?
"You have two hands and two feet do it yourself!"
Grabbing my phone from my pocket, I look to see if I had any messages. Nope...none... I wonder why. Usually I'd get about 20 texts at the end of the day but today I have none.
You see ever since Eiliyah left I made it my task to have more friends. I never really had any other friend than her, I always thought she was enough for me. After she left I started being more active in school and joined more clubs which resulted in me being more popular.
Her leaving really did affect me, it's like my world was crashing down. I mean Eiliyah wasn't just my best friend but my sister too you know? But now...it's like we're strangers. Two people crossing the same path but never really noticing each other.
I walked into the living room where mom was cooking dinner. I went to the fridge and grabbed some juice.
"So are you excited Eiliyah is coming back? I remember you two were so inseparable back in the days," Mom exclaimed while a huge smile spread across her face.
I sighed, I know I'm supposed to feel ecstatic but I don't. I just feel normal like today is just another day. If I were still 11 I would probably be jumping on the walls right now preparing things to do with her. I remember all the dress up games and pranks we use to do. I also remember how we use to annoy our siblings with them.
One time we played a really funny prank on Zayan and he got so mad. Like really, really mad! Enough to chase us around the neighborhood. I mean how were we supposed to know that we shouldn't have put toothpaste in his hair gel? Man we were trouble makers.
"Yeah," I plaster a convincing smile on my face. I grab my juice and take a sip of it.
This should be interesting

Today is Monday which only means one thing, school. You see me and school don't really mix. We're like oil and vinegar, cats and dogs,we don't go together AT ALL!
I lazily get out of my bed and head to the rest room with both eyes closed. Turning the doorknob, I notice its locked.
"Hurry up whoever is in here!" I bang on the door while yawning.
"Too late I was here first," Zayan yelled from the other side of the door. I internally groaned, he's going to take forever. This boy and his looks! He's wayyy too into them and it doesn't help his ego every time a girl stares at him. You'd think girls would have more respect for themselves. Well we all aren't perfect.
I go into my room and look through my phone, I have 3 New text messages from my friend Ahlam. I opened up the texts while waiting for Zayan to hurry in the rest room.
'Hey girl I have to talk to you!' -Ahlam.
'Seriously text me back!'-Ahlam.
'Did you know we're having a pop quiz today in Islamic Studies?' -Ahlam.
'What up?' -Me
I press send and wait for her to reply.
'I'm freaking out over what to wear and we're having a pop quiz! Also there's something else I have to tell you but I'll tell you it when we're face to face' -Ahlam.
I couldn't help but grin over the first part. Okay yes Ahlam is the biggest fashionista I have ever met. Like seriously she even makes her own clothes! And they always look like they came from the cover of a Muslim fashion magazine Mashallah. She really has a talent for design. She's lucky she knows what she's good at and what she wants to do for a living. I couldn't help but furrow my eyebrows at the last part. It must be something big.
'First, don't worry about what you're going to wear. No matter what you're wearing you always look great! Second, don't sweat about the test! Inshallah it'll be a piece of cake. Third, okay you can tell me later :)' -Me
'You're right I'm awesome! Okay see you at school' -Ahlam.
I rolled my eyes with a faint smile playing on my lips.
'Bye'-Me
I get up from my bed and head to the rest room again. Hopefully no one will be in here now.
Just as I was about to walk in Maryam ran in while sticking her tongue at me.
"Too late," She said as she closed the door.
"God!" I yelled in frustration. These are the times I wished I was an only child.

Just as usual classes went by really slowly. Like reeeaaalllyyy slowly, God could time go by any slower? Right now I'm sitting outside under the shade waiting for Ahlam to show up.
"Hey,"A familiar voice said from behind me. I turned around and saw Ahlam and Veronica standing behind me with smiles on their faces.
"Hey girlies," I say as I move over and make space for them. Veronica and Ahlam have been my friends ever since Eiliyah left. They're great but they could never take the place of Eiliyah, I don't think anyone could ever do that. They sat down beside while giving each other knowing looks. Something's up, I could tell by the smirks on there faces.
"Spill," I say to both of them.
"Eiliyah and her family came back today! They were supposed to come yesterday but they had an early flight!" Ahlam squealed. I stopped chewing and looked at them with wide eyes. She's back? Already?
"What!?" I exclaimed. To say I was surprised would be a huge understatement! How did they know? They weren't even that close with Eiliyah. I quickly search my bag and look for my phone. I see that I have missed calls from both of my parents and Zayan.
"There you are! Let's go!" My sister Maysun grabbed my hand and pulled me away before I even knew what was going on.
"Wait, stop! Where are we going May?" I asked once we slowed down. She let of my arm and turned around finally facing me.
"To the airport! Don't worry we're already excused from classes. Also Maryam and Zayan are waiting for us in the car so let's hurry!" She grabbed my arm again and started pulling me. There was only one thing on my mind. Today I get to see Eiliyah after 6 years...
