I was pulling up to Kitty Hawk and I see that they have security guards by the gate.
"Ah shit."
I slow down as they come closer to me. I stop and put on my best face, "Hey, how are y'all doing?"
"Can I help you?" the man asked me
"Canp counselor Laura, I'm her.. I'm her brother." I lied, "I was gonna drop off one of these packages back here for her, if that's okay. It's real quick, I promise, just in and out."
"That's alright. Yeah go ahead." He tells me as he motioned to the other guy to let me pass.
"Thank you so much. Alright. Yall have a good day" I tell them as I wave goodbye and head on in. Wow, that was pretty easy. I pulled into the parking lot of the camp and took in my surroundings. A few people passed by and I got out and walked to the front, I see a guard and call out to him.
"Hi there, sir, uh I'm looking for... I'm looking for the office." I asked him, "Uh, is there a main lodge or something?"
He started to point to the right, showing me how to get there.
"Right down there? Appreciate it." I told him giving him a thumbs up and made my way to the office. I now can see why she hadn't want to come here. I opened the door and walked into the office, "How's it going, ma'am? Um.."
"Can I help you son?"
I struggle with the door for a moment before I got it to close, "I have a message for one of your campers here. Um.. uh her name is Nala, uh, Zato. She's here, right?"
"Unfortunately, we're not allowed to do that. You're not even supposed to be here on campus." She says
Dang it. Alright time to get sympathy points.
"Okay. It's.. it's just that it's very important... May I sit?" I asked her and she gave a little nod and I sat down.
"It's just a very important matter, ma'am." I take notice of her picture with her animal.
"Oh, I'm sure it is, sweetie, but we have a policy. No contact from the outside world for the first six weeks."
"Right. Ma'am." I finished staring at her picture with an idea popping into my head.
"It's actually a family matter, and uh... I'm related to her. I'm her cousin." I tell her. I knew for a fact if Nala heard me saying that she would be singing "Sweet Home Alabama" in the background.
"So, look, I know you got a policy and all, but there's been something that happened recently that... You know what? I'm getting a little emotional." I tell her as I start tearing up, "So I think I should go. I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't even be here, like you said, so I'll leave you alone." I get up quickly and a bit dramatic, "But before I leave, could you just let her know, um... just that, uh..."
I hesitate for a moment trying to come up with a code word so she would know I'm here. "...Wayne didn't make it?"
She looks up at me questionably, "Who's Wayne"
"Wayne's her best friend. A Siamese mix, and um, yeah, it was really sudden." I told her with a broken voice which I got the reaction I needed from her.
"And, you know, uh.. the mailman was coming at 40 mailed per hour so.." I snapped my finger and sigh, "He's in a better place now. But, um, could you just let her know for me? I'd really appreciate that."
She gives me a nod in agreement and understanding, "Thank you, ma'am. You have a great one." I tell her as I open the door and head out. Worked like a charm. I sneak around the back and I wait and watch her leave. I saw that she headed to a cabin not too far from me.
