--- Raven's POV ---
As I stepped into the bath, the warm water embraced me, offering a small comfort I hadn't felt in weeks. Ace and Marco stayed by my side, their presence a steady reassurance. Ace gently washed my back, his touch tender despite the anger simmering just below the surface. The remnants of bruises still marred my skin, each one a painful reminder of Ivan's cruelty. I could see it angered Marco and Ace as Ace continued to wash my body, their jaws clenched and eyes burning with barely contained rage.
Their tenderness was overwhelming. They were being extremely caring and loving, their actions filled with a protectiveness that made my heart ache. I felt a pang of guilt for shutting them out this last week. But I had needed that time to make peace within myself with what had happened.
Last night, when they both came back into the room after the doctor left, it hit me how much they truly care for me. Their unwavering support, despite everything, made me realize that I needed to open up to them, to allow them in. Keeping them at arm's length wasn't helping any of us.
After I had told them what Ivan did, the look in their eyes said it all. They were as devastated as I was, but their determination to protect me gave me a glimmer of hope. I needed them if I was going to make it out of this darkness alive. I couldn't do it alone, and for the first time in a long while, I didn't want to.
Ace finished washing me, and Marco handed me a soft towel. As I wrapped it around myself, I looked at them both, seeing the raw emotion etched on their faces. They weren't just here out of obligation, they were here because they cared deeply for me. I took a deep breath, feeling a flicker of strength reignite within me.
"Thank you," I whispered, my voice trembling slightly. "For everything."
Marco stepped closer, his eyes softening. "You don't have to thank us, Raven. We're here for you, no matter what."
Ace nodded, his expression fierce with determination. "We'll make sure no one ever hurts you like this again."
I nodded, tears brimming in my eyes. For the first time since in a while, I felt a small spark of hope. With Marco and Ace by my side, maybe, just maybe, I could find my way back to myself.
Marco led me back into the room, his hand a steady comfort on my back. As I sat on the edge of the bed, Ace stepped out momentarily and then returned with one of Marco's t-shirts in his hand. It hit me then that I didn’t have any clothes here, everything was back at my apartment.
"We need to go to my apartment to get some of my clothes," I said, looking up at them, hoping they'd understand.
Immediately, both of them objected. "No," Marco said firmly. "You're not going back there. Ever."
I felt a surge of frustration. "But what am I supposed to wear?" I asked. "I can't live in Marco's t-shirts."
Ace chuckled lightly at my remark, his usual mischievousness breaking through. "I could get used to that," he said with a grin. But then he quickly cleared his throat when Marco shot him a stern look. "We'll arrange for clothes to be brought here for you. You won’t need to worry about it."
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head at Ace's behavior, but I didn’t press the issue further. It was a relief to see some normalcy and humor from them, even in such a serious time.
As I pulled on Marco's t-shirt, the familiar scent of him brought me a strange comfort. The fabric was soft against my skin, providing a small measure of solace. I sat back on the bed, and Marco and Ace positioned themselves on either side of me, their presence a reassuring barrier against the painful memories that threatened to overwhelm me.
"I’m just glad you guys are here," I said softly, looking between them.
"We're not going anywhere," Marco assured me, his voice gentle but firm.
Ace nodded in agreement. "You don’t have to face anything alone, Raven. We'll figure this out together."
Their words warmed me, their unwavering support giving me strength. For the first time in a while, I felt a sliver of hope. With Marco and Ace by my side, maybe I could begin to find my way out of this darkness.
"I shut you both out," I admitted, my voice breaking slightly. "I thought I had to deal with everything on my own, but I need you. I can't do this without you."
Marco reached out and took my hand, squeezing it gently. "We know. And we’re here for you, always."
Ace leaned in, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "You're not alone, Raven. We'll get through this together."
I felt tears welling up in my eyes, but for the first time in weeks, they were tears of relief. I wasn’t alone. I had them, and together, we could face anything.
Ace cleared his throat, breaking the emotional moment with a practical suggestion. "Now, how about that walk we talked about? Fresh air might do you some good."
I looked at him, surprised by the sudden shift. But then I realized how much I needed it. I nodded, a small smile playing on my lips. "Yeah, a walk sounds nice."
Marco helped me to my feet, and Ace grabbed a light jacket for me. As we made our way downstairs, I felt a renewed sense of determination. I wasn’t going to let the darkness consume me. With Marco and Ace by my side, I could face whatever came next.
As we stepped outside into the crisp morning air, I took a deep breath, feeling the tension in my body begin to ease. The world felt a little brighter, a little more hopeful. And with every step we took together, I felt a little stronger, a little more ready to face the challenges ahead.
We walked in silence at first, the cool breeze gently brushing against my skin. Marco and Ace stayed close, their presence a steadying force. It was as if they were my anchors, keeping me grounded as I navigated through the storm of my emotions.
After a while, Marco broke the silence. "We’ve got you, Raven. Whatever you need, we’ll make sure it happens."
Ace nodded in agreement. "You’re our priority now. Just focus on healing, and let us handle the rest."
I looked at them both, gratitude filling my heart. "Thank you. I don’t know what I’d do without you."
"We don’t have to find out," Marco said with a soft smile. "We’re here, and we’re not going anywhere."
The rest of the walk was peaceful, the tranquility of the surroundings providing a welcome respite from the turmoil inside me. By the time we returned to the house, I felt a little lighter, a little more at peace.
Back in the kitchen, Marco and Ace prepared lunch together, their easy camaraderie bringing a sense of normalcy to the day. I watched them, feeling a sense of belonging that I hadn't felt in a long time.
As we sat down to eat, I realized that for the first time in weeks, I had an appetite. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.
The journey ahead was still daunting, but I wasn’t alone. And that made all the difference.
