✨The evening air in Bloodstone Haven was unusually still, the cold, crisp night muted as if the forest itself was holding its breath. Inside the hall of Forest Cove Academy, the crew sat around the grand stone table, sharing quiet conversations and small laughs. Elara, seated beside her sister, was unusually quiet, her gaze distant.
Amara glanced at her, concern knitting her brow. "Elara? Are you alright?"
Before Elara could respond, her body stiffened, her eyes glazing over as though a veil had fallen across her mind. She stood abruptly, her hands gripping the table for balance. The room fell silent, all eyes on her as a low, otherworldly voice emerged from her lips-a voice that wasn't her own.
"They come from the shadows... A curse born of vengeance. The healer must walk the sacred path... the blood moon will decide..."
"Elara!" Amara cried, rushing to her sister's side as Elara's knees buckled. Silas was on his feet in an instant, catching her before she could fall. Her body was limp, her breathing shallow.
Nimerta moved closer, her face pale. "She's in a trance. But this... this is no ordinary spell."
Cassian crouched beside them, his usual levity gone. "What the hell just happened?"
"I don't know," Silas said, his voice tight with worry. He looked down at Elara's face, her features serene yet hauntingly still. "But whatever this is, it's not natural, let's place her in bed."
That night, as the others gathered around Elara's still form, Silas stepped outside, his thoughts churning. The forest seemed darker than usual, the shadows heavier. He felt a strange pull, an almost magnetic sensation that guided his gaze skyward.
A single black raven circled above before descending gracefully, landing on the railing before him. In its beak, it carried a small scroll. Silas took the scroll, the bird watching him with unnervingly intelligent eyes. The parchment was worn and sealed with a symbol he didn't recognize-a jagged crescent moon surrounded by three stars.
Breaking the seal, Silas unrolled the scroll and read the message within:
"Silas Thorne,
Travel by boat to the Isle of Duskpine, deep within the forests of the Skycry Peaks. Bring with you the Sacred Blossom Blend-moonleaf, starwort, and crimson sage. The Head Mother of the Quinatawa Tribe lies cursed, and they offer you their eldest daughter as repayment for your aid. Delay not-the blood moon nears, and with it, the curse strengthens."
The writing faded as he read, leaving the parchment blank. Silas exhaled sharply, his grip tightening on the scroll.
Amara appeared at his side, her face weary but resolute. "What is it?"
He handed her the parchment. "A message. From the raven."
She frowned as she scanned the blank page. "There's nothing here."
"It's not meant for you," Silas said simply, tucking the scroll into his coat. "It's a summons. To a tribe called Quinatawa."
"Do you trust it?" she asked, her voice cautious.
"I don't have much choice," Silas replied, glancing back toward the academy. "If there's even a chance this can help Elara, I have to go upon day light."
The next morning, Silas prepared for his journey. Amara, Thistle, and Cassian helped him gather the Sacred Blossom Blend-a combination of moonleaf, starwort, and crimson sage that Nimerta identified from the academy's archives.
Cassian, ever the skeptic, handed Silas a satchel of the herbs with a smirk. "You sure you don't want company? I'm great at breaking curses, you know."
Silas shook his head. "This isn't a group mission. The letter was clear-I have to do this alone."
