The shower let me clear my head. Ranma's flirty new attitude wouldn't distract me—not tonight. I refused to let it. I didn't want to think about Akane, the love pill, or the endless tangle of emotions threatening to drown me. For now, I focused on the warm water streaming over me, letting it soothe the tension in my shoulders and wash away the day's exhaustion.
Once I finished, I changed into my heart-patterned pajamas—or as I liked to call them, my "house clothes." Modest and comfortable, they were perfect for a night that seemed destined to test my patience. Ranma had made it painfully clear that he had no intention of sleeping anywhere but here, and I wasn't about to give him any more fuel for his teasing.
Stepping out of the steamy bathroom, I froze for a moment when I saw him leaning casually against the wall, waiting for me. His eyes lit up as soon as I appeared, trailing over me with a mischievous glint.
"Ah," he said, grinning, "I was hoping you'd take longer. I was looking forward to coming in to shower with you."
My face flushed instantly, and I rolled my eyes. "Ranma, stop."
He laughed, raising his hands in mock surrender as he straightened up. "Relax. I'm just joking. Mostly." His gaze lingered for a second longer than necessary, and then he winked playfully before heading toward the bathroom. A small overnight bag dangled from his hand.
I frowned, confused. "Wait, where did you even get that?"
He paused at the door, looking over his shoulder with a sly grin but didn't say anything. Instead, he disappeared into the bathroom without another word.
I let out a long sigh and made my way to my bed, collapsing onto it with a heaviness I hadn't fully realized was there. My limbs felt weighted, my mind clouded by the day's events. I needed rest, even if Ranma's ever-present energy and proximity made it feel impossible. Yet, as soon as my head hit the pillow, my eyelids drooped with a heaviness I hadn't noticed before. Sleep claimed me almost instantly.

When Ranma stepped out of the bathroom, droplets of water glistening on his skin, his gaze immediately fell on my sleeping form. My breathing was soft and even, my face relaxed in the dim light. The tension that had clouded my features earlier was gone, and the sight made something in his chest tighten.
"How careless," he muttered to himself, his eyes trailing over me. His jaw tightened, and he shifted uncomfortably, the persistent ache in his body making itself known again. The problem was impossible to ignore—the strain visible even through his pajama pants. It wasn't just physical; it was the way I had consumed his thoughts since yesterday at the beach, the way I had occupied his every waking moment.
He clenched his fists briefly, trying to ground himself. He was a man, after all. And a gentleman, he reminded himself, even if he hadn't been feeling very noble lately. That didn't mean it was too late to start.
The heat of his skin made wearing a shirt unbearable, so he'd opted to forego it entirely. Crossing the room, he approached the bed quietly, his movements careful and deliberate. His gaze softened as he brushed a stray lock of hair from my face, his fingers lingering for a moment before he pulled back. My peaceful expression tugged at something deep inside him, and without another thought, he slipped into the bed beside me.
He lay there for a moment, still and uncertain, before instinct took over. Gently, he pulled me closer, his arms wrapping around me in a protective embrace. The warmth of my body against his made his heart race, but he forced himself to remain still, his breathing slow and controlled.
"Just sleep," he whispered, as if saying it aloud would make it easier. Shutting his eyes, he tried to focus on the sound of my breathing, letting it lull him into a calm he hadn't felt in days.
