Because a song becomes explicit
When someone drops the "f" bomb
But if I mention rape
Like it's a joke
The song is still appropriate for children
Because we grow up in a culture
Where women standing up for themselves
Is more scandalous
Than a woman getting raped
Because girls are told, they are the problem
When boys get distracted
Because after all
Boys are the only ones that matter
Right?
But incase you have forgotten,
Your world would not exist
If women didn't
Yet the world that we live in seems to forget that
Yes feminism
Because young girls who want to play with cars
Instead of Barbie dolls
Are told that they can't
Because it is not ladylike
Because men created Barbie to tell girls
From the youngest possible age
That real beauty is plastic
Well if you love plastic so much
Go screw Barbie
Because beauty is not plastic
Because beauty is not a man's idea of what a women should be
It is a woman's right
Yes feminism
Because for too long
Men have ruled a woman's world.
And it's time we take it back
Yes feminism
Because everything women do
Is overlooked
Because we get paid less
Because of what is in between our legs.
Yes feminism
Because we are beautiful creatures
But we are fierce
We are stronger than any man
Because we have endured this oppression from the dawn of time
Yes feminism,
Because feminism is not about hating men,
it is about equal rights,
And not telling a girl she can't do something
Because she's a girl
Because yes we can
Yes feminism
Because we've spent too long
Bowing down
Because we have curved our spines
Slaving over stoves
Yes feminism
Because it's time to stand
And take back the world we created.
