The whole crowd basically moved in on me. It was overwhelming. I only got one chance to shoot Ivy a glance of sheer terror before the wave of people seemingly crashed over me.
It took a few minutes for her to come to her senses, but she did come to save me. "Hey!" she said loudly. "We need the prince to get a little sleep." She said firmly to the crowd that was slowly gaining more people.
All of the people just disbanded after that, no questions asked. I breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you. I thought I was going to get mauled." I said. "Yeah..." she said. "Come on. I've got some stuff to explain to you." She reminded me.
Ivy led me away from the bulk of the people to a somewhat private spot. I couldn't really say how I felt about finally getting to be enlightened about all the stuff that she'd been keeping away from me for so long. She was about to explain everything.
I should've been happy, and, on one hand, I was. But, on the other hand, I felt a bit awkward. 2 hours ago, I'd kissed Ivy. And she seemed to be alright with spending time alone with me. That was pretty good, but it also wasn't at the same time.
I sat next to her in the dirt. "You clearly figured out that I haven't been telling you everything you should know." She said outright. "Obviously." I shifted uncomfortably. "I'm really sorry about that." She apologized.
"It's fine, I guess. I think I understand." I mentioned. "But you're telling me now, right?" I asked skeptically. "Yeah, but I should let you know that I'm not supposed to be telling you any of it." She mentioned.
Somehow, that was my first clue that whatever she had to say was probably pretty terrible.
"Like what? What's so bad about this?" I asked. She sighed. "Just promise me you won't mention this to your mom unless you really need to confront her, and then I'll tell you." She said quietly. "I promise." I replied. "Alright."
She hesitated at first. "There's a lot that's likely to happen to you. And it's probably going to happen pretty soon." She explained. "A lot of people are after you. They're probably going to try and kill you in any way they can. You just need to be careful and watch out for yourself."
"I'll be careful." I assured her. "I don't really want to die, so it'll be fine." I added honestly. "Me either, but you don't have any idea what you're up against. And that's something you'll have to find out yourself." She reminded me.
"Here's a crazy idea." I said. "Why don't you tell me?" she hesitated again. "What's the huge deal with warlocks, anyway? Why are they attacking us—or me?" I asked. "Long story." Ivy replied.
"So...here's another crazy idea." I answered. "Explain."
She glared. "For some reason, they believe they're better. We've been at each other's throats for thousands of years, almost always on the brink of war. It's really about time for all of this to happen. The only complication was that you were born." She said bluntly.
"I guess they didn't expect a genetic weapon like you on the opposing side. And yeah, you're a weapon, so don't bother telling me you're not. I know I know what you're thinking right now. You just assume you're one person out of 9 billion, but that's not true.
"You never seemed to understand—not even from me—that you were someone that an entire race was relying on. I didn't expect you to. Nobody was allowed to give you the clue. Your dad always knew it was best to keep you away from this world until the time was right. Shane I knew it needed to stay that way.
"If you hadn't stayed on earth, your parents' plants would've fallen apart. Everything would've fallen apart. I learned from your dad—once you were born, the whole world was basically ecstatic about you.
