Two days after Jenna play, shortly after school on a Monday, Jenna broke me news that made my week a living hell.

"I'm moving to Hawaii"

The earth stops rotating.

The oxygen is somehow sucked entirely from my lungs.

my eyes bulge straight from their sockets they might've come out if I hadn't closed my eyes to process this moment.

"What?" Is all I can think to say, hoping I hadn't heard her correctly

"I'm moving to my dad's house in Hawaii where he's stationed. I'm leaving Sunday" Jenna looks saddened

"Why?"

"Why?" Jenna repeats, looking at me like I'm crazy "Anna, I don't want to live here for the rest of my life, you know that"

I did know that, Jenna hated Vermont, she hated our town, I knew she would eventually move.

I just never expected her to move 4,928 miles away...

"I mean yeah but... what about school?" I look exasperated

"I'm going online, I'll be able to study acting too, there's this cute theater by my dads house that teaches young actors in the fall"

"What about your job?"

"I quit last week Anna" she said it as if she had told me

"Well what about you mom for Christ sake, are you just going to leave her?" I was getting frustrated, not at her

At the fact I was losing my best friend.

"She's going to grandmas house for the holidays, she's had this planned for months"

"I can't believe this, for how long?" I'm starting to freak out, Christmas without Jenna?

"My dad said I can stay as long as I want, I was thinking until summer, maybe longer"

"Summer?" My voice slightly raising "I have less than a week to say goodbye to my best friend, who is leaving indefinitely?"

"I thought you would be happy for me, I haven't seen my dad since my parents divorce, I miss him"

There's a beat of silence, as the silence lingers I look at her, finally coming to my senses

"You're right, I'm sorry" my eyes look towards the floor "I'm just going to miss you"

"It's ok, I understand, this is going to be the first Christmas I'm not with you" Jenna looks as if she's about to cry

"Don't say that, we still have a week of fun before you go"

Jenna perks up at the word fun and a look sweeps across her face that can only mean trouble

"Let's go see Issac Rooster"

"Jenna, no."

"Yes! Come on, it's my last week in Vermont, I can't leave without going at least one more time"
