Daryl Pov

I had come home from a long day at work to hear giggling filling the apartment. I knew that laugh from anywhere, and it filled me with joy. It was like sinking into a warm bath, relieving me of any worries.

I followed the sound to the bathroom, leaning against the doorframe as Daniel sat in the bath, jody sat on the floor, both playing with a pirate ship I got him for his 1st birthday.

"Can you say, aye aye captain?"

"Oops!" He shouted instead, before giggling to himself. It was the only word he knew at the moment, and me and jody had a bet going about if he would say mama or dada first

When Daniel noticed me in the doorway, he pointed and clapped his hands together. Jody quickly turned around, sighing in relief when she saw it was only me

"He made you walk the plank yet?" I asked, sitting next to her.

"No, but it sure looks like it." She was drenched in bubbles and water. Daniel had clearly been splashing around and it had spilled over the side of the tub

I grabbed one of his boats and began to swim it towards him as he reached for it. "Have you been a good boy for mama?"

"He's been good as gold, like always. He was pulling on his ear this morning so I thought maybe he was getting an infection but he seems fine now."

"Alright. Well, we can keep an eye on that. He'll let us know if it hurts." I ran my hand over his head, laying his wet blonde hair, flat. He had beautiful blonde hair, like the sun, and me and jody were certain that it would turn red, like hers, over time. She was also a blonde baby but was a full red head by the age of four.

Daniel rested his cheek on my hand, closing his eyes so I was stuck with my arm out. I nudged him a little to wake him up. "Come on buddy. Not nap time yet."

He groaned and kept his eyes closed

Jody grabbed a towel and lifted him up, wrapping him up like a burrito. She smothered his face with kisses, waking him up with giggles. "Don't you go falling asleep on me. You haven't even had your dinner yet."

I kissed the top of her head. "What are we having for dinner?"

"Spaghetti and meatballs. It'll be done in about half an hour. Can you get him dressed whilst I finish making it? Don't let him fall asleep."

"Got it. Come on, buddy. Whatll it be today? Superman pyjamas or captain America?" Daniel didn't reply as I lifted him up. He instead rested his head on my shoulder and let me carry him to his room. That's the thing I envy about babies. They fall asleep so fucking fast. I am usually tossing and turning all night, up for a piss, then for some water, then another piss. It's not uncommon for me to get just a couple hours of sleep before my next shift starts. But Daniel, he could sleep any time, anywhere, even if he's uncomfortable

Since having Daniel, jody had become a very light sleeper. Apparently it was common in mothers, and doesn't ever get better. They're constantly listening out for their baby to need help, it's part of nature. But jody hated it. She got woken up everytime I turned over in bed, to the point that some nights she just lies ontop of me to keep me still

Once I got Daniel dressed in his pyjamas, I went and also changed clothes into something more comfortable. I took a quick shower, putting Daniel in his crib so he didn't get hurt.

Once dinner was ready, we all sat down ready to eat. "This looks delicious. Thank you," I said to jody, kissing her cheek.

"You're welcome. So, how was work?"

"Pretty good actually. It was busy which makes time go faster. I was constantly doing something. How was your day?"

"It was good. Me and Daniel went to the park and he went down the slide all by himself. I also saw the most adorable thing. A little girl, just learning to walk, toddled over to us and held Daniels hand for ages. When she had to go with her mama, the little girl kissed Daniel. I don't think I've ever been so close to happy screams in my life!"

I chuckled at the sound of her day. "Good with the ladies, huh? I'm very proud," I said, stroking Daniels chin to get him to wake up

Jody rolled her eyes at his sleepiness. "He wouldn't have a nap earlier no matter how long I got him to lie down for. Just kept giggling to himself, and now look. He's exhausted."

I held her hand. "He's fine. He can go to bed after tea and if he gets up a little early tomorrow, then ill get up with him."

"It's your day off tomorrow. You shouldn't be getting up early."

"Hey, atleast I get days off. Being a stay at home mama is 24/7 work. I really don't mind waking up early with him."

She smiled and thanked me, kissing my lips. I kissed her back, my hand resting on her thigh. When we pulled apart, I noticed Daniel was in his high chair, fast asleep.

"God I wish I could sleep like that," I muttered

"Me too. You put him to bed, ill clean the dishes and then I have something I want to talk to you about."

"Should I be worried?"

"The opposite. Now go put him to bed." I lifted Daniel up and took him to his crib, not needing to encourage him to sleep as he went out like a light.

I went back to jody and wrapped my arms around her waist, waiting for her to speak to me. "Everything okay? You seem tense."

"Er...I think so. I just, I've been thinking alot...about us. And, I love you, daryl. I love you so much. I think im ready."

"Ready for what?" I asked. I thought I knew but needed to be sure

Jody got closer, leaning up to kiss my cheek. "I'm ready to have sex."

"I don't want to pressure you into doing anything you'll regret. And we can stop at any time, you know that don't you? I won't be offended if you want me to stop. I'll listen and we can go at your pace, whatever you need."

"Thank you for being patient with me."

"I love you for you, not for sex. I don't care if we have sex tonight, or in 50 years time, or never. I just want you to be happy and comfortable." I wiped away the tear that had escaped her eye, kissing where it had left a stain

She began to giggle, "not tonight. We have Daniel. I was thinking mama could have him for a night and then we have the place to ourselves. I feel ready, but if I do change my mind or I do get upset, I don't want Daniel to be around to see that. He shouldn't see me broken."

"Hey, you aren't broken, Jody. You're perfect."
