Just to let you guys know and to clear up any confusion I changed Alayna's name to Amaria and Kayden's name to Dante. Above is the picture of her ballgown. The picture of her mask is available through external link. (I couldn't figure out how to attach two photos, it would be much appreciated if someone could show me how.)
This chapter is dedicated to TalatheWolf for giving me amazing feedback and tips and for fangirling about the selection with me. Go check out her book the Property of a Gordon, it's really good!
|chapter four|
Amaria's POV
I walk briskly out of the tavern, covering my face with the hood of my cloak. What he has asked me to do was nearly impossible, but then again I once thought getting to the human realm was just a fantasy. Breaching the doors of an armed castle singlehandedly would be an almost certainly fatal feat.
I trip over my feet and almost bump into two woman. They might have been thirty summers. They were giggling, walking side by side down the road.
"Marisa, darling" The blonde on the right, turns to the her friend.
"Yes Vivienne?" The other woman replies.
"Jezebelle looked very beautiful in my pearls tonight" Vivienne smiles to herself.
Marisa scoffs "She was nothing compared to my Carmelita."
Vivienne chuckles "Jezebelle will surely catch the prince's eye" She says confidently.
I stand upright, ears focused on the two ladies at the mention of the prince.
"Pish tosh, he shan't have to host this masquerade ball tonight for Carmelita must be his mate" She exclaims assured.
Ball! Prince! The two key words to my survival circulate through my head. If this was true then tonight would be the night I leave this bloody place! All I needed was a dress and a mask and my thievery skills shall be out into use again. A dress, I think to myself. Where can I find a dress at this hour?
I bump into a old wooden door, snapping me out of my thoughts. I look up to see a large rusted sign. "Madame Aldaine's Pawn Shop" I read out loud. My shoulder bumps the door and a bell chimes throughout the shop. I wince and walk in inside, observing my surroundings. It was full of knicks and knacks, useless junk and hopefully a dress and a mask.
A young girl, about my age rushes to the front desk. She looks up at me flustered, her flaming red hair flying everywhere. "C-can I help you?" She stammers out.
"Bronwyn is someone there? A customer perhaps." A man's voice resounds through the small shop.
"Yes Dad, a customer" She replies.
A man about fifty summers old comes lumbering to the front desk. "How can I help you miss?" He says, as he try's to look dignified.
"Do you by any chance have a gown and mask to sell?" I ask, doubtful.
"Let me look in the back" He says, shuffling to where he came from.
The girl looks at me, as if she wants to say something. "Are they for the ball?" She asks, quietly.
I nod "Yes, are you attending?". She opens her mouth to reply, just as her father comes rushing back.
"We have these." He places a beautiful creme gown with rose-coloured speckles that thin out closer to the bottom. Next to the gown is an intricate rose gold mask, that rose up on one side and had a teardrop framing the nose. I stared at them in awe, they were some of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
He holds them out to me. I take them, running my hand against the softness of the dress and tracing the intricate pattern of the mask. I press the dress against me and hold the mask up to my face. "What do you think?" I ask awkwardly.
Bronwyn smiles and her father points to the two items and says " Both for five pontus."
My mouth drops open and my eyes widen. "Five pontus, that's a bloody ripoff" I mutter quietly.
Take it or leave it" He says stubbornly.
"Three pontus" I haggle.
"Take my daughter to the ball with you and its a deal." He extends his hand for me to shake. I shake, smiling brightly.
"You won't regret this." Bronwyn gestures for me to follow her back. I guessed we had to get all dolled up.
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, I was busy reading the Infernal Devices and graduating elementary school. If your wondering what pontus are they're part of the money system they have in my book. 11 ledi is equal to 1 ravier and 27 raviers is equal to one pontus. Do you guys know any young dark- haired (brown hair to black) actresses that you think would be an awesome Amaria? If so comment below, I'd love some new ideas!
