Lily

He caught up to me faster than I would have liked. When I was sure he could see my face I sent him a glare, as we made eye contact I was surprised to find him laughing.

"Okay, okay. I'm sorry Lily. I didn't mean it, none of it. You were just being so distant and I got frustrated, forgive me?" He sounded so sincere, but I could see him struggling to contain his laughter. So instead of answering I simply say,

"You know my name."

"Well yeah, we are neighbors." He flashes me another boyish grin. And suddenly I feel a little guilty.

"I'm sorry I don't know your name." I bite my lip in nervousness. Would he get upset that I was so ignorant?

"You don't? That's okay, I'm kind of a quiet person, not really someone who likes to draw attention. The name's Dylan." He let out a low chuckle, but I could tell he was a little disappointed. Dylan's honesty did help ease my nervousness and I started to relax into a comfortable silence with him as we continued walking, this time at a much slower pace.

"So do you?" Dylan interrupted the silence.

"Do I what?" I asked. I was half listening to him, distracted by the fact that I had unconsciously started walking closer to him so that our hands were millimeters from accidentally brushing. With that in mind I thought I could have easily missed his question.

"Forgive me?" He asked. Dylan sounded like little lost puppy and my answer would provide him with the home he was searching for. But I was completely and utterly confused.

"For what?" I squinted my eyes, the rain forgotten momentarily.

"For what I said earlier, about you... and the rain." He seemed slightly exasperated that I hadn't known straight away what he meant.

"Oh that." I said, deflecting his question for the second time. In response he let out a frustrated groan then opened his mouth to say something, probably some sort of sarcastic remark. But he was cut off by a giant wave of water that splashed up and over the two of us from the street.

Glancing up from my dress that was now dripping wet from the splash I looked at the road. There speeding away was a person on a motorcycle. As I stared at the person, their head turned around so that I was staring at a reflection of Dylan and I in the black visor. The person kept looking back until he, or she made it to the end of the block where the high school parking lot was waiting. With a quick jerk the bike turned into the lot and out of sight.

Beside me I felt, rather than saw Dylan fuming.

"That bloody idiot! He knew we were here but still sped through that giant puddle!" Dylan all but yelled.

"I thought you didn't mind water?" I asked quietly. The question seemed to catch him off guard.

"No it's not that. I do like water, and rain. Though it's not for the same reason as you, yes I find it tranquil and beautiful. But it has more to do with a certain someone who as become a part of the rain herself." His gaze was steady until he blushed, then he looked away. I couldn't help but wonder who that special someone was. At the thought, something in my heart twinged. Before I could think anymore of it Dylan grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the school. His touch sent fire rushing up my arm; nothing painful, just alive. It was a nice feeling especially with the chilling water from the wave causing shivers.

"Wait, you said 'he'. You think the person on the bike was a guy?" I asked breaking my thoughts of where they were headed.

"Well, yeah. Didn't you see the way he was dressed?" He sounded slightly puzzled, even more so when I shook my head.

"He was definitely a guy Lily. I just don't know who." Dylan said the last part to himself in a hard voice.

"C'mom Lily I want to hurry and catch that bastard before school starts." Dylan growled. As goosebumps popped up over my skin I wasn't sure if they were from the cold, or from Dylan. I was almost convinced it was the latter.
