"So, did you and Notti make up or what?" I asked, looking at my sister, Xe'naiya.
She sighed, rubbing her temple. "Yeah, but I still don’t believe him."
"Why not?"
"Because I know how Notti acts. I’m not wrong. I know he knows that girl," Naiya said, her eyes meeting mine with a mix of frustration and worry.
I gave a soft smile. "It’s okay, girl. I know how it feels. I found out who Tyler was cheating on me with, too."
"Wait, who?" she asked.
I took a breath. "You know that party we were at, that one time?"
"Yeah..." she replied, still trying to piece things together.
"Well, after me and dd got out the room, I saw Maria there. With Tyler. And I didn’t even go up to them, cause you know she like my best friend and it really made me mad and sad at the same time that should would do sum like dat."
Naiya stared at me, her gaze intense as she processed what I’d just said. "So, you just saw them and didn’t say anything? You didn’t confront him?"
I let out a long breath, shaking my head. "What was I supposed to say? He already knows how I feel, and I wasn’t about to make a scene. What would that change?"
She nodded, but there was still that conflicted look in her eyes. "I get it. But still, it hurts, right? I would’ve wanted to scream at him."
"Well, i was already getting along with dd, and i didn'twant to ruin that because i started growing feelings for him," I said, looking at her
"Well, at least you’ve got DD now," she said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Yupp," I said, all excited, i was already thinking about him, "I wonder what he’s doing right now."
She raised an eyebrow. "He still hasn't asked you to be his girlfriend?"
"Nope, that nigga taking too long " I said with a small laugh. "I guess he taking his time, but that's still my man tho"
"Look at you, all smiley over DD. You down bad, sis."
The phone rang, cutting off Naiya mid-scroll. She glanced at me, and I smirked. "Not him calling me," I teased, snatching up my phone.
I answered, putting on my playful voice. "Hey bro," I said, knowing it’d get under his skin.
"Mmtch, who’s you calling bro?" he shot back, trying to sound mad, but I could hear the smile in his voice.
I laughed, twirling a strand of hair. "Whatchu doin’?" I asked, leaning back in my chair.
"You should come over," I added quickly, not even thinking about it.
"I can’t, ma. How 'bout tomorrow?" he replied, his voice dropping low.
Ouu, not him calling me 'ma.' My heart did a little flip. I tried to keep my voice steady. "Tomorrow? Why not now?"
"Becauseee," he said, dragging the word out, teasing me like always.
"Whatchu smiling forrr?" I chuckled, shaking my head.
"Man, stop playing with me," he said, his voice softer now. "I’ll see you tomorrow, though, I promise."
"Alright," I replied, biting my lip to stop the goofy smile spreading across my face. "Don’t make me wait too long, DD."
"Never that, ma," he said, and I swear my cheeks were burning.
When the call ended, Naiya was already staring at me, a smirk plastered across her face. "Girl, okayy DD got you smiling like that?"
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t stop grinning. "Mind ya business," I muttered, throwing a pillow at her.
