RILEYS POV

Everyday was the same routine. Wake up, brush my teeth and hair, eat breakfast, go to school, come home, do my homework, eat dinner, and then sleep. Even though it was boring, I kinda liked it. Everything was peaceful and calm. I hated change, because it disrupted that.

I was too tired to speak. Mornings weren't my thing. I don't think they're anyone's thing really. School wasn't my thing either, and neither was it anyone else's. Except for Farkle. Farkle loved school.

I plopped myself on my chair, forcing spoons of oatmeal to my mouth. I wasn't very hungry for some reason. My parents watched me with a concerned look on their face. Something told me today wasn't going to be a very good day. But I refused for that to happen. Everyday could be a good day if you just tried hard enough.

The buzzer went off, which meant that Maya was here. I was too tired to get up and buzz her in, so I waited for someone else to do it. Auggie finally gave in and got up. Seconds later, the blonde bounced into the apartment.

"Good morning losers!" Her voiced roared throughout the apartment. How could she have more energy than me on a Monday morning? Maya never seemed to have the energy for anything. Especially not school. Her blonde curls bounced their way over to me. "Hey chump!" Her hand ruffled my hair.

"Mmmmmhey." Was all I managed to mumble before my head hit the table. I could feel everyone's stare. Maya was probably mouthing 'what's up with her?' to my parents. I felt her fingers dig into my hair, grab a bundle, and pull on it. "Owww!" I cried and slapped her hand away from my hair. "What was that for?"

"I'm trying to wake you up. You have to be awake enough to pay attention in class." She almost sounded like my dad. Her arms were crossed and her eyebrows furrowed. Her ocean blue eyes pierced towards me. Oh how I'd kill to have eyes like those.

"Why do you care?" I asked her. Because Maya Hart cared about nothing. Or at least that's what she says. I knew deep inside Maya cared about many things. Especially her friends, because she almost had no real family and who else was going to care about her, and what else was she going to care about?

"Hey, one of us has to pay attention, and it ain't ever gonna be me!" She flashed her pearl white teeth. Typical Maya. I let out a small giggle and rubbed my eyes tiredly. "Anyway, what's up with you?"

"Huh? I'm just kinda tired. I'll be fine." I yawned. She frowned, then quickly smirked. The exact smirk she cracks right before she was about to tease someone.

"Were you up all night taking to Luuuuuucaaaaaaaaas?" She batted her eyelashes and had a dreamy look on her face. I wasn't though. Lucas and I went out a year ago for 2 months, but decided that we should just remain friends. Or as Maya liked to call it, "REAAAALLLLYYYY good friends."

"No! And I've told you so many times that I'm over him!" I huffed out. Maya's whole face had 'disbelief' written all over it. I wish she would just let it go. I've told her over and over that I was over Lucas. She glanced at the clock in the kitchen.

"Oh shit! We're gonna miss the subway!" She almost made me drop my oatmeal as she grabbed my arm and ran out of the apartment.

It wasn't until we were out of the building she let go of my arm. "Oww!" I examined my arm, because I was almost sure she left a mark or something. "Are we really that late? If so what are we waiting for? Come on!"
