Gyuvin tried not to let himself get too distracted, as he sketched. Ricky was right; to have a live model was much more helpful than a flat reference, since sculpting was a three dimensional art form. By the time he finished getting satisfactory sketches from the perspective of all four sides and four corners, making sure to give his model ample break in between so his legs didn't break, it was already late into the afternoon, the sun dipping in the sky, the balcony awash with yellow light.
"Let's call it a day," Ricky said, stretching his legs as he got up. "You've worked hard. I'll scan your sketches and photocopy them first so I can give you remarks on them over the weekend, okay?"
Gyuvin nodded, handing his sketchbook over for Ricky to scan and print. "Thanks for modeling for me. It really was helpful," he said gratefully. "I should probably buy you a drink or something..."
Ricky smiled. "Don't worry about it. Since we're done for the day, want me to show you something fun?"
"Something fun?"
"Mhm. Remember those glass pieces we saw at the museum?"
"The one I did my paper about?"
"Yeah, those. I've been working on something similar, actually. I'd love to show you some stained glass work if you want to stay."
Gyuvin brightened up immediately, and Ricky led him back over to the worktable they'd been at earlier, poking through the sheets of coloured glass, returning with two half-cut sheets of purple and blue iridescent glass.
"The one at the exhibition we saw was a collection of different types of insect wings, but since you've been talking about angels lately, I've been thinking more about angel wings. I was throwing a few ideas around in my head, but I've been so busy I just haven't gotten down to it."
Gyuvin laughed. "Oh yeah? Who's been taking up your time?"
Ricky narrowed his eyes at him playfully. "You, more than anyone else. Look at you barging into my home like this on a holiday."
"And I'm only here because you asked me to come over, so who's fault is this really?" Gyuvin retorted.
"Touche. Do you want to do this or not?"
"I do. Show me, please?" Gyuvin did his best to look like a wide-eyed puppy, and Ricky scoffed.
"Acting cute doesn't get you everywhere in life, you know."
"So you think I'm cute?"
Ricky was silent for a long few seconds. Gyuvin wondered if he'd gone too far.
"...No comment."
"You're mean."
Ricky reached into a drawer at his workstation and handed Gyuvin a pair of thick gloves and safety glasses. "Put these on," he said, heading over to the other side to grab some materials. "Safety apparatus is important when you're working with stuff like glass."
"Then, what about you?"
"I've been doing this for years, it's whatever."
"You only have one pair of these, don't you?" Gyuvin asked, holding up the safety glasses.
Ricky made a face. "Kind of. But I need to protect you first, so put them on."
"Aww, cute. Thanks."
He returned to Gyuvin's side a moment later with a small armful of colored glass sheets, some of them new and some of them already with scored edges, and placed the pile in front of him. "Go on, choose."
"What are we doing?"
"Nothing." Ricky glanced over, caught Gyuvin's confused expression, and laughed. "Literally, nothing. Starting a proper project would take too long, so I'm just showing you some basic techniques. You can make whatever you want, but you should probably pick something simple."
