The world felt wrong.

Griefer stood in the middle of the once-bustling town square, eyes locked on an empty spot, a place the player used to stand. your absence felt like a void, an aching gap in everything around him.

He didn't know what to say to himself. Didn't know what to feel.

A part of him wanted to rage, scream at the world for being so damn cruel. But that wouldn't bring them back. Nothing could. He had seen it—the faint trace of a smile that had started to fade, the way their eyes had become more distant as time passed. The whispers in their mind grew louder, and he... he hadn't been enough.

Griefer's hand clenched around the hilt of his sword, the weight of it grounding him in the present. But even the weight couldn't fight the hollow ache inside him. The player, the one he'd tried to protect, the one he'd failed, was gone. The pain wasn't just in his chest—it was everywhere. He couldn't escape it.

"Y0u sh0uld've s41d m0r3. D0n3 m0r3," Griefer muttered, his voice rough, strained. "Y0u c0uld've st0pp3d 1t..."

But h0w? H3 w@s just... h1m. Just @ t33n,S0m3on3 wh0 c@us3d ch40s @nd d3struc7i0n. H3 d1dn't h@v3 th3 @nsw3rs. D1dn't dkn0w h0w t0 s@v3 s0m30n3 wh0 w@s @lr34dy t00 f@r g0n3.

A bitter laugh escaped him. "Y34h, l00k @ m3, @ll br0k3n up @b0ut 1t. D0esn't m@k3 @ d@mn d1ff3r3nc3 n0w, d0es 1t?"

The silence answered him.
——————————————
He remembered the day things had started to shift, when your silence had turned from quiet contemplation to something darker.

It started with small things—shifts in mood, hesitant answers, longer silences between your words. Griefer had tried to brush it off, to tell himself it was nothing, but deep down, he felt it too.

The change was subtle, but unmistakable.

And despite all his attempts, despite the few words of reassurance he gave, he could see it: the way you pulled away, like a tether slowly unraveling. Griefer had always been one to dive into chaos, never to stop and think about the consequences, but this time, he had tried to be different. He had tried to reach them, to give them something more than just battle and conflict. but you had been slipping through his fingers, and he couldn't stop it.

"C0m3 0n, 1t's just @ ph@s3. Y0u'll g3t thr0ugh 1t," he had told you once, when you seemed so far away. "W3 @ll h@v3 0ur d3m0ns, but y0u'v3 g0t m3, r1ght?"

But it hadn't been enough. No matter how much he tried to reach out, you had slowly withdrawn further into themselves, the darkness in your mind growing until... until the silence was permanent.

——————————————
Griefer wiped his face, but the tears he hadn't realized he was shedding kept coming. The cold air seemed to cut through him, but it wasn't enough to numb the pain.

"Y0u th1nk th3y w0uld'v3 c@r3d?" he spat bitterly. "Th1nk th3y w0uld'v3 w@nt3d m3 t0 f33l l1k3 th1s? L1k3 1'm th3 0n3 wh0 f@1l3d?"

But deep down, he knew the answer. They'd never wanted that for him. Never wanted him to feel this lost, this broken. They'd always been there for him, no matter how chaotic things had gotten. They'd offered something more than just destruction. They'd offered... hope.

And he had failed to keep it alive.

Griefer sighed, dropping his sword to the ground with a heavy thud. "Th3y'r3 g0n3... @nd 1'm st1ll h3r3, @r'n't 1?" The feelings were beginning to dawn on him. He had noticed, but it was too late to change it now.

The void was all he had now.

——————————————
Griefer wandered aimlessly through the remains of the town, his mind still in turmoil. He could barely remember the last few days. Everything felt like it was moving too fast, but too slow at the same time. He would pass by places they used to visit together, and every time he did, the silence felt louder. It felt like your presence was still there, like the echoes of your laughter still clung to the air. But it was all just a reminder of what he had lost.

He tried to shake it off, tried to focus on the world around him. But it felt hollow. Empty. Nothing made sense without them by his side.

"Y0u th1nk 1t w@sn't m3?" he muttered to no one in particular, as if hoping someone, anyone, would answer. "Th3y'd've f0rg1v3n m3, r1ght?"

But no one answered. Only the wind and the sound of his own heartbeat.
