The tension in the room was suffocating as Mr. Kim’s chilling smile lingered. His presence loomed large, a shadow darker than the secrets that bound the family. Jungkook clutched the leather-bound journal tighter, its worn edges and fraying spine carrying the weight of a past he had fought to escape. Taehyung instinctively stepped closer to him, his body a shield between Jungkook and their father.
“Where did you get that?” Mr. Kim’s voice was deceptively calm, but a razor-sharp edge lay beneath his words.
Jimin, unaware of the storm brewing, looked up at his father with wide, innocent eyes. “I found it in your study, Appa. Did I do something bad?”
For a fleeting moment, Mr. Kim’s icy gaze softened. He crouched to Jimin’s level, placing a hand on the boy’s shoulder. “No, Jimin-ah. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Jungkook’s chest tightened at the sight. Even in this moment, Mr. Kim managed to play the role of a doting father, a mask Jungkook knew too well. But the mask shattered as Mr. Kim’s gaze snapped back to him, darker and colder than before.
“But you,” Mr. Kim continued, standing and addressing Jungkook, “have no right to that journal. Give it to me.”
Jungkook felt his grip tighten involuntarily. “Why should I? So you can destroy it? Bury the truth like you’ve buried everything else?”
Shadows of the Past
“Truth?” Mr. Kim let out a humorless laugh. “You wouldn’t recognize the truth if it stared you in the face. Do you even know what you’re holding?”
Jungkook’s jaw tightened. “I know enough. This journal belongs to Han Min-seok, the man whose death you pinned on me.”
The room descended into stunned silence. Mrs. Kim’s breath hitched audibly, her trembling hand clutching the edge of a nearby chair for support. Angelina’s sharp intake of breath was followed by a calculating glance at the journal. Even Taehyung, who had braced himself for confrontation, appeared shaken.
Mr. Kim, however, remained unfazed. His expression shifted into something colder, a predator sizing up his prey.
“Min-seok was a fool,” he said dismissively. “He overstepped his bounds. He was nothing more than a pawn who thought he could play the king.”
“And what about me?” Jungkook’s voice cracked, the anger simmering beneath the surface boiling over. “Was I just a pawn too? Someone to throw away when things got inconvenient?”
Mr. Kim stepped closer, his towering figure casting a shadow over Jungkook. “You were an opportunity. Nothing more.”
Taehyung interjected, stepping between them. “Stop it, Appa. You’ve done enough damage.”
Mr. Kim’s gaze shifted to his eldest son, his lips curling into a smirk. “And what about you, Taehyung? Are you so eager to bite the hand that fed you? Everything you are, everything you have, is because of me.”
“No,” Taehyung said firmly. “Everything I am is despite you.”
A Mother’s Revelation
While the confrontation unfolded, Mrs. Kim took a hesitant step forward. Her voice trembled as she addressed her husband. “Is it true? Did you frame Jungkook for that man’s death?”
Mr. Kim turned to her, his face void of remorse. “I did what was necessary to protect this family.”
Mrs. Kim’s eyes filled with tears. “You ruined his life! He was a child!”
“He was expendable,” Mr. Kim said coldly.
The words hung in the air like a death knell. Mrs. Kim’s knees buckled, and she sank into the chair, her face pale. For years, she had turned a blind eye to her husband’s actions, rationalizing them as the cost of their comfortable life. But now, faced with the brutal truth, the weight of her complicity was unbearable.
Unlocking the Past
Angelina approached Jungkook, her voice steady but urgent. “Let’s see what’s inside.”
Jungkook nodded, his hands trembling slightly as he pried open the lock. The journal’s pages revealed a world of secrets: detailed financial records, incriminating notes, and a timeline leading up to Han Min-seok’s death.
Angelina’s sharp eyes scanned the entries, her mind working quickly to piece together the narrative. “This is more than enough to implicate him,” she murmured.
Jungkook flipped to the final entry, his heart pounding as he read Min-seok’s haunting words:
If something happens to me, it won’t be an accident. Kim Suho will stop at nothing to protect his empire. But I won’t go quietly. The truth will come out, even if it costs me everything.
Tears blurred Jungkook’s vision as he closed the journal. Min-seok had known the danger he faced, and he had paid the ultimate price.
Jimin’s Innocence
“Hyung?” Jimin’s small voice broke through the heavy silence. He tugged on Jungkook’s sleeve, his wide eyes filled with concern. “Are you okay?”
Jungkook knelt down, pulling Jimin into a tight hug. “I’m okay, Jimin-ah. Thank you for finding this.”
Jimin beamed, his tiny hands clutching Jungkook’s shirt. “I just want you to be happy, Hyung.”
Despite everything, Jimin’s love remained pure, a beacon of hope in the darkness.
The Storm Breaks
Mr. Kim’s voice cut through the moment, sharp and commanding. “Hand it over, Jungkook. Now.”
“No,” Jungkook said firmly, rising to his feet. “I’m done letting you control me. This journal is the end of your lies.”
Mr. Kim’s calm facade cracked, his face twisting with fury. “You think you can take me down? You’re nothing, Jungkook. Nothing without me.”
Taehyung stepped beside Jungkook, his stance resolute. “He’s not alone. Not anymore.”
Angelina joined them, her gaze steely. “Neither am I. The world will know who you really are, Kim Suho.”
Mrs. Kim hesitated but then stepped forward, her voice trembling. “And so will I. I won’t stand by and let you destroy anyone else.”
For the first time, fear flickered in Mr. Kim’s eyes. His empire, his control, was slipping through his fingers.
“This isn’t over,” he spat before storming out of the room.
The Aftermath
As the door slammed shut, the family let out a collective breath. Jungkook clutched the journal tightly, his resolve stronger than ever.
We have to act fast, Angelina said. He’ll try to destroy any evidence that links him to this.
Taehyung nodded. I’ll contact someone I trust—a lawyer who can handle this.
Jungkook’s voice was steady. “We’re not just exposing him. We’re taking him down—for good so no lawyer right now hyung.”
The storm outside raged on, but inside the Kim household, a new storm was brewing—one fueled by truth, justice, and the unbreakable bond of a fractured family finding its way back together.
