The Sanctuary floor was eventually coated in multicoloured pots and pans as far as the eye could see. Each droplet from the ceiling created a pinging noise. These pings resonated through the hallways, giving an almost musical quality to the sound, except for the occasional off-beat tang of a larger saucepan. Doing her best to ignore the sound, Helen pulled her fingers into her gloves as she stared down at the phone she had left down on her desk, reading the coordinates Henry had given her.
"I've called someone in to take a look at those pipes." Helen started with an unsmiling face. "Be very sure he is not waiting at the doors for an extensive period of time. I plan to be back before four." Helen took her phone into her hand before slipping it into her pocket and turning to face Henry.
Henry looked up from the tablet he had clenched with one arm. "Gotcha Doc." He responded with an intrepid nod. Helen turned to collect her rucksack. She took the strap in hand before swinging to face Henry once more.
"Please make sure those pots are emptied every now and again. I want to avoid as much water damage as possible. If there is an absolute emergency, contact me. I'm sure you-"
"Doc, we got this." Henry interrupted with a floundering smile. "We can hold the fort while you're gone." He watched her expressions before calming directing his eyes back to his tablet to poke at a few more tabs and back up to her again. After what seemed like a long and awkward silence, Henry spoke up hearing the fault in his own voice. "Will's waiting for you with the van." He cleared his throat afterward.
"Thank you, Henry." Helen paused and nodded. She began to walk, brushing past his shoulder toward the doors to the lift. Henry followed her with his eyes and watched silently as she left. He raised one hand to wave her off and gave her his best smile before walking the opposite direction, following the tablet under his nose. Both of them avoiding the pots and pans that created the most obnoxious obstacle course.
The lift buzzed on the way down through the floors. Calmly, Helen folded her arms and gazed through the open end of the lift. The thought crossed her mind that the indoor downpour may have made the other abnormals uncomfortable. They didn't need to be stressed here at all. With that notion she begged whatever external force was watching her to fix the problem.
The floors passed by, one by one at a steady speed. Her mind wandered once more, to the disturbance of the EM shield. Henry had described it as a rather large object however her mind was not allowed to wander further than that. The elevator came to an abrupt stop, setting her train of thought far off the tracks. The doors uncomfortably screeched their way open and Helen took a large step out into the garage to be greeted by Will.
"Where to, Magnus?" Will asked, unfolding his arms and kicking off the wall he was leaning against. He'd dressed suitably.
"The source of the disturbance was tracked to ten kilometres south east of here. Hop in." Helen's smile was more of an awkward twitch of her lips. Undoubtedly she was irritated by the damage done to her home. The van door clicked open and Helen climbed behind the wheel. The door slammed after her and her belt wrapped her into her seat. Will climbed in beside her, closing the door and strapping himself to the seat as well. With Will fastened in, Helen started the engine and took off through the gates, following a blip on the radar Henry insisted on installing into most of the vehicles.
"Well, this is it." Helen frowned into the distance ahead of them. She could see nothing from inside the van. The surrounding wilderness was silent, undisturbed. She pulled the van to a rather sudden stop and licked her bottom lip as she opened the door and climbed down. Will followed her on the opposite side of the van as he began to walk forward.
"This way," Helen said, following her phone and occasionally looking up at the scenery. It was tranquil yet so alive. It was hard not to notice the spreading canopy of green. Light filtered through the fresh cornucopia of summer leaves to illuminate the road for the two. The air felt very fresh compared to the usual city air. It seemed particularly convenient to Helen as she trod forward, finding a moment of serenity in the bright colours and spurs of light. The sound of Will's footsteps behind her brought her back to reality as she refocused herself. The tracker was leading her to a disturbance in the EM shield. This trip is not for pleasure.
"Magnus?" Will asked, disturbing the silence almost abruptly. Helen turned to focus on him. His head was tilted backwards, to stare at the foliage above them. She followed his eyes with hers, up toward the canopy above them.
"See that? They're shredded and burned. Something fast must have torn through the leaves.. what would do that though?" he asked, turning his head back to Helen who slowly turned to meet his eyes again. Will waited for the eye contact to break again. He gestured off the path and pointed in the direction of the jagged and burned leaves spread across the tree tops. The lime greens were burnt, charred to an unfriendly black and brown.
Helen pressed on with will trailing closely behind her. Once more, Helen peered down to her pocket device and followed through uncomfortably long grasses with Will awkwardly trudging behind her. Something blue caught Helen's eyes. It wasn't sky blue or any sort of natural blue for that matter. It was royal blue. The type she had seen many years ago on old police phone boxes for Saint Andrews. As she drew closer, she realized the object in from of her was in fact a Police Phone box.. Slanted in the mud, it's paint was tarnished, chipping and filthy. There was silence between Helen and Will while she approached the box hesitantly and her protégé circling counter clock wise.
"Okay, but how did it get out here?" Will asked, turning to Helen for some sort of observation. He didn't get a reply, all he noticed was her slightly parted lips. Helen was waiting for words.
"This phone box caused interference in the E.M shield, but how was it mobilized?"
"It's steaming." Will looked the box up and down. "I can't see it moving by itself, perhaps an abnormal with succeeding strength threw it in a fit of rage? From the angle of the tilt, it must have flown from due East of here."
"From the city? Surely we would have received a call or a tip about a rogue hostility. What would have caused the steam? Momentum and friction wouldn't have caused this type of damage. Remarkably, the box itself is still intact. An impact like this should have shattered and splintered the wood." Helen pondered and turned to face Will and eventually her gaze moved back to the double doors.
The door itself read: Pull to open.
Upon attempting to follow that instruction, the doors shook abruptly only to prevent her from entering. She exhaled as she slowly backed away from the doors.
Turning to Will again, Helen parted her lips to speak but the screech of the phone box' double doors distracted her. The doors finally opened, pulled from the inside. Helen's eyes widened as she jumped back, holding her stunner gun pointed toward the emerging figure. Black smoke rose from the inside of the doors along with a young man with dark chocolate hair that defied gravity itself.
An arm, dressed in a dirty once-was-blue suit covered the man's face while several coughs escaped his hoarse throat. His face was cut, bruised and pale.
For a moment, Helen hesitated, lowering her gun but soon she had repositioned it. A broad smile spread across his mouth as he lowered his arm. Green eyes scanned Helen enthusiastically before watching over Will as well.
"Allo!" he shouted with excitement before fatigue got the best of him. There was an awkward silent moment before the man's eyes rolled and he began to tilt forward.
"Bloody hell.." Helen gasped before trying to keep this man standing up. Will ended up carrying this weary man to the ground.
"He's out cold." Will held him awkwardly while Helen squatted beside him. She placed her fingers gently behind his ear only to feel the oddest pulse.
"His pulse is doubled.." She blinked before moving aside, turning to the blue box which abruptly slammed in her face. She pushed the doors now, hoping for some answers inside the box but to her dismay they remained jammed. "Will, get the Van ready. We can't leave him here." In truth, her curiosity had reached a peak.
With that instruction, Will stood and jogged back through the track to the van to make sure they could facilitate this stranger.
