Chapter 3
Sunday morning, the sun was already casting through the window in Adam’s room. “Adam! Adam!” Patsy, Adam’s mom, hissed as she wakes him up. He turned to his side and yawned, blinking his eyes.
“What?” he mumbled drowsily.
“Who is that girl?” she asked, trying to sound calm but in all honesty, worry and fear was taking over her.
“What girl?”
“That girl sleeping on the couch!” she whispered so Christina wouldn’t hear them talking.
“Oh, she’s a genie,” he said, oblivious of the things he’s saying. Just then he realized what he just said. His senses suddenly woke up and he stood up from his bed.
“A what?” his mom frowned at his words, completely alarmed.
“No. Um—- that is—- her—- name is ——- Christina,” he stuttered nervously. His heart was beating fast and he knew it was obvious that he looked tensed but he hoped his mom wouldn’t notice.
“Why is she here?”
Adam realized he hadn’t thought of any lies yet. He stared down on the floor and thought quickly. “She—-um——she’s a friend. She needed a place for the night,” he lied, hoping his mom would buy it.
“And why is she dressed like that?”
And why is she dressed like that, he repeated in his mind. “She—-um—- was asked by—-her friends to dance in one of their parties and she did a belly dancing. That’s why she was dressed like that.”
Her mom just raised an eyebrow at him, probably sifting him if he’s telling the truth because obviously he wasn’t that convincing with his statements. The door on his bedroom was left half-opened, just then, he caught a glimpse of Christina already waking up and stretching her body. Then he saw her yawned. He stared at her for a moment, and was stunned that even yawning, she looked flawlessly beautiful. He clearly didn’t notice his mom looking at Christina as well until she waved a hand in front of him.
“Hey, the lady is definitely melting with the way you’re staring at her,” Patsy remarked. “How long would she stay here?”
“I don’t know, mom,” he said.
“Alright, as long as you kids don’t do anything nasty, I will allow her to stay. She looks decent and innocent anyway besides on what she’s wearing. Because if you ask me, she looks like a genie on those clothes,” she said.
Of course, mom, she looks like a genie because she is one, he wanted to say but he couldn’t. “I don’t think she’d stay long. Come on, let me introduce you to her,” he said, getting out of the room and walking towards Christina who is now staring by the window.
Christina sensed someone coming, and as she turned around, she saw Adam with a woman beside him who was smiling at her genuinely. “Hi,” she greeted.
“Hey, Christina, this is my mom, Patsy. Mom, this is Christina,” Adam introduced as Christina extended an arm for a hand shake and was glad Patsy took it and didn’t pass out just like what happened to Adam.
“It’s nice to meet you, Christina,” Patsy said.
Christina smiled and moved closer to her to give her a peck on the cheeks which surprised both Adam and Patsy. “I’m so glad to know you, ma’am,” she said sweetly.
“Oh, don’t call me ma’am, just call me Pat,” Patsy stated. She then looked at her watch and realized she was running late. “Oh, by the way, I got to go. I have my appointment to my doctor. See you later, son, and you, Christina,” she said, patting Adam on his shoulder and smiling at Christina. As she got to the door, she looked back and grasped. “Oh, I forgot, no se—“
