Daryl Pov

Me and jody had been engaged for a week before deciding to tell our family. We had booked a table at a diner for us 3, merle, and Donna

"You ready to go, darling?" I asked, walking into our bedroom.

"Do I look ready?" She asked me. I looked her up and down. She had a bra on, and some jeans but no top.

"I'm not complaining," I laughed as she rolled her eyes.

She went back to looking through her drawers whilst sat crossed legged on the floor. Daniel was crawling infront of her, tugging on her bra so she would feed him. "Daryl, will you get him please?"

I lifted Daniel up but he started crying, clearly wanting Jody's milk

"I think it's time to stop breastfeeding," she sighed sadly, choosing a top and putting it on. She walked over and kissed Daniels cheek

"You sure? It's a big decision."

"Yeah, im sure. It may take a few months to ween him off it, but I don't want to be breastfeeding a toddler. Also, he's getting teeth and it hurts!"

"You hurting your mama?" I asked Daniel, putting on a baby voice. I didn't even notice I was doing it until jody would raise her eyebrows at me with a smirk she was failing to hide

"Dada!" He said, reaching up for my face

Me and jody instantly looked at eachother, our eyes wide. We were really worried about me being Daniels father. Me, because I wasn't sure I'd be any good at it. And jody, because she was worried he wouldn't take to me since I'm not his biological father. But hearing that, it fixed both our hearts

"You crying?" I asked jody who was clearly crying whilst kissing our boy

"No. You?"

"Nuh huh"

"Liar."

"You lied first."

We laughed and kissed one another shortly before leaving for the diner. He was growing up now and although part of me was sad by it, another part of me was grateful. Not every parent gets to see their kids grow up, yet I was here experiencing it all at such a young age.

At the diner, Donna ran over and grabbed Daniel from my arms. "Oh, there's my beautiful baby." She then kissed jodys cheek whilst saying, "and my other beautiful baby."

"Hi mama. Merle here yet?"

"No, not yet."

"How have you been?" I asked her whilst we walked in and took our seats.

She smiled at me, still holding the baby. "I've been good. Missing you kids like crazy. I didn't think you'd be leaving the trailer park so soon but, I am so happy for you both. Not many people can do what you've done."

"Thanks Donna."

"Yeah, thanks mama. You been seeing anybody recently?"

"Who hasn't she been seeing?" We turned around to see merle walking towards the table.

He kissed jodys cheek and ruffled Daniels hair before sitting next to me. "Take it you've been getting around then? Anyone special?" Jody asked

"She's been going out every single night with a new guy."

"Yes thank you merle, I can speak for myself. And it's not every night. There is one person who I've been seeing a lot of recently. We've grown close and I really really like him."

"When do we get to meet him?" I asked

"You already know him."

Jody scrunched up her eyebrows and then gasped, "oh my god! Please tell me it's not one of my old teachers!"

"Nono. Nothing like that."

"So who?"

Merle and Donna made eye contact, smiling at one another as jody's eyes grew wide. In a quiet voice so not to startle Daniel, she asked, "are you kidding me?"

Merle tried to explain, "with you two gone, me and Donna have been spending alot of time together. And it was difficult during the court case."

"I needed comforting and merle was there for me."

"No. Nuh uh. This is...it's...wrong! That's the word I'm looking for! This is just plain wrong!"

"Jody-" I tried to calm her down but she just put her hand up to signal for me to shut up

I let her finish. "Out of all the guys in the world, did you have to go for my brother in law? That would make us...sisters in law. Oh my god!"

"Well, you aren't technically married."

"But we are engaged!"

There was a short moment of silence as jody tried to collect herself and merle and Donna took in the news

"That's great news! I'm very happy for ya!" Merle said, clapping me round the back

"Thanks brother."

Donna held jody's hand and kissed it, tucking a piece of hair behind her ears. "Darling, I have been locked away because of your daddy for too long. And I know this is alot to take in. But this should be a happy occasion. I know it sounds strange, but I'm only a few years older than merle, honey. I love you, and I know you love me too, so please let me be happy."

Jody looked up at merle and asked, "you gonna take care of her?"

"I will, I promise."

"I don't have to call you dad now, right?" She asked with a teary laugh

"I'd run a mile if you did."

We all laughed even Daniel, although he didn't quite know why he was laughing

I looked at Daniel and realised, "you're his uncle and his step grandpa."

"Oh shut up," merle scoffed whilst me and jody laughed loudly.

The rest of the night was spent drinking, although I didn't have anything to drink so I could take care of Daniel and jody. I also was not a very happy drunk, so tried to avoid taking too much. "This has been wonderful," Donna slurred, kissing my cheek as we parted ways in the car park

"Yes it has." I lifted Daniel up and he fell asleep against my chest. Jody was already sat in the car since she could hardly stand up

"I'll see you soon baby brother."

"Merle, wait up. Do you mind watching Daniel for a couple hours tomorrow?"

"Sure, I don't mind. We have a great time. What you doing?"

"Me and jody are going to look at some houses. She doesn't feel at home in the flat so we're finding somewhere more comfortable. The last move was so rushed to get away from our dad's."

Merle nodded his head. "No problem. Just drop him off round the trailer any time."

"Thanks. How is dad now?"

"Same as always. Drunk, high, complaining that you don't visit."

"Ha, of course. Sure he misses me. You still staying there?"

"I spend most my time at Donna's now. Do you think jody is actually okay with it?"

I whinced and admitted, "I think she drank away her worries tonight. But she loves you both so she'll come round eventually."

"Hope you're right. I'll see you tomorrow."

In the flat, I put Daniel to bed first before lifting jody up and taking her to our room. I've seen her undress before, but i felt wrong doing it myself. I was worried she'd wake up and panic. But she couldnt sleep in jeans so I carefully got her undressed and when I was done, I lay down with my arm around her

With her eyes still closed, in a sleepy voice, I heard from the darkness, "if merle hurts me mama in any way shape or form, you know I'll have to kill him, right?"

"I know. I wouldn't blame ya."

"Good. Just letting you know so you understand if he one day goes missing or free falls off a cliff."

I laughed and kissed the top of her head before closing my eyes and falling asleep
