Species name: Déan (People of Déa)

Appearance/Anatomy: Males average from 5 human feet in height to 6 feet, whereas females can be anywhere from four feet to five and a half. Weight varies, depending on roles and wealth. They have an average hairline, most often grey or black. Males have a receding hairline from which a pair of horns grow, which in turn conform to the shape of their heads. Déans looks mostly human in appearance, but are capable of generating light from their arms, hands, eyes, and chest area.

Behavioral Tendencies: Déans are highly intelligent, and have built an entire social hierarchy based on light, and the various colours of it: White - Judicator: These are the people running Déa; politicians, priests, judges Red - Sentinels: They are in charge of protecting Déa, even at the expense of their own life Blue - Medicator: Every Sentinel has a partner Medicator, who is there to act as an emergency medic Electric Blue - Soul Speakers: They turn lights into intracate patterns. They are writers, poets, and artists. Purple - Generators: They are in charge of powering the cities Yellow - Negotiators: They are priests and scientists Orange - Builder: They construct and demolish buildings Green - Artisans: They built all of the tools used by all of Déa Grey - Grunts: They do all the work not done by the other hierarchies Black - Blacklight: They are an object of hatred for all of Déa. They are hunted down and brutally killed.

Déans have a vocal communication system, similar to Chinese and English, in which one particular word means one thing on it's own, but something else with a suffixe or a prefix.

They are a very peaceful race towards other species, but suffer from severe internal conflict, often occuring between Blacklights and the rest of Déan society.

Because they generate their own light, they do not need sunlight to see.

Culture:

Déans are an extremely religious people, focusing their religion on three specific gods: Grorum, the Father God of the White Light (The Sun); Grora, the Brother God of the Red Light (The Red Moon); Grola, the Sister Godess of the Blue Light (The Blue Moon). Their is a fourth god, who is greatly feared: Gromur, the Dark God of the Black Light (The Black Moon, which is the only moon capable of eclipsing Grorum). In the Déan religion, it is believed that when one dies, their light is sent to Grora to be judged. If the light is judged poorly, it is turned black, and sent to Grola to be created as a Blacklight (a Déan whose light is black; they are feared amongst Déan society). If they did nothing of notice, they are sent back to Déa as they were before. If they accomplished a great deed, they are sent to Grorum, to become a part of him, the Déan equivalent of Heaven. Grora is also the god of justice and victory, Grola is the goddess of healthy and protection, and Grorum of redemption and salvation.

All of Déan technology is focused around light. They have developed tools to use their own bioluminescence as weapons, tools, power, and for entertainment. All Déan art, with the exception of music and literature, is highly focused on light and the manipulation of light. Sculptures are often crystallized light, while paintings can only be seen in the dark.

Additional Information/Misc.: They are a highly superstitious race, and while they put up a front for outsiders, they do not like aliens to their planet. Most will hold their tongue in the presence of a non-Déan, but others will not be so nice.
