Fifty-five: The Other Side

!!!

Y/n panted as she let her bike fall to the ground once they arrived outside of Eddie's trailer.

Dustin had explained everything to Y/n and Max on the way there. Basically, they had a theory that there was a gate at every site of Vecna's murders, and that Vecna was essentially the Mind Flayer's five-star general with the ability to open gates.

So, the reason they were at Eddie's place is to meet the others at the gate, so they could return to the real world since the gate in Lover's Lake was guarded.

They opened the door to Eddie's trailer after ducking under the police tape, finding a red, glowing, thrumming mass of vines and goo. The gate. If everything went according to plan, the others were on the other side of that gate. They just had to break apart the slime and help the others back to their dimension.

Y/n and Erica groaned in disgust at the sight. "Oh, shit," Y/n cursed.

"What is that?" Erica asked, and it was then that Y/n realized Erica never saw the gate in itself. She had only seen the one with a blinding laser impaling it, making the gate nearly invisible.

"The gate," Y/n muttered in response.

After looking around, Dustin grabbed a broomstick, raised it up towards the gate, then began clearing the thick slime.

They all looked up at the other side, but all they saw was the floor of Eddie's trailer, a distorted mirror of where they were now.

That was until they saw a familiar face looking back at them. Steve Harrington.

Smiles crept onto their faces at the sight of their friend, the others soon joining the boy. Dustin let out a loud laugh. "Hi there," he greeted, waving. Lucas, Erica, and Y/n waved as well, a chuckle escaping Y/n.

Dustin continued to laugh crazed cackles, "Bada bada boom!"

-

Y/n and Max brought a mattress from Eddie's room into the room with the gate, placing it under the portal. Y/n cringed when she saw the yellow stains on it. "Eugh." She wiped her hands on her shirt, disgusted.

"Those stains are, uh..." Eddie began, looking for words. "I don't know what those stains are."

Dustin approached the gate with a rope made of sheets he had tied together. "Not quite sure how these physics are gonna work, but, uh..." he stood on the mattress, directly under the gate, "here goes nothing."

The boy threw the rope up, sending it in the air and through the gate. It stayed in the air as Dustin held it, hanging from the ceiling for both groups. Everyone gathered onto the mattress for a closer look.

"Here we go," he said. "And if my theory is correct..."

Dustin let go of the rope, and it stayed suspended in the air. Grins of amazement and genuine happiness reached everyone's faces as Dustin spoke. "Abracadabra."

"Holy shit," Max cursed from beside Y/n.

"Alright, pull on it, see if it holds!" Dustin shouted to the group above them. Robin reached up, gripping onto the makeshift rope and tugging it with her entire body. It didn't budge.

Dustin laughed again, and Max grabbed the rope as if to make sure it was real while Erica spoke. "This is the craziest shit I've ever seen in my life, and I've seen some crazy shit."

Dustin, his eyes not leaving the people above them, held a hand up, and Erica lifted hers to high five him.

"Guess I'm the guinea pig," Robin said before she began to climb the sheets, grunting as she made her way up. Dustin out his arms out as he backed up, leading the others to back up as well. "Alright, let's clear the landing pad," he said, and everyone stepped off of the mattress.

"Oh my God!" Robin shouted once she made it through the gate, the gravity of the normal dimension taking effect and dragging her down to the ground. There was a thud as she landed on her back on the mattress, immediately sitting up. "Oh, thank God," she smiled. "That was fun."

"Ew, okay, now get off Eddie's disgusting ass mattress," Y/n said, a grin on her face as she helped Robin up.

The group looked back up through the gate, waiting for whoever was next. They found the three left simply glancing at each other until Eddie spoke. "Alright, I guess I'll go."

Eddie started up the rope, letting out small grunts of effort until her thudded against the mattress. "That..." he said, quickly sitting up. "Was fun. Shit." He took Dustin's hand and was pulled to stand.

"See you on the other side," Steve said, looking to Nancy, only to find her with her eyelids fluttering and eyes white.
