(New Years special)
The dark, torch-lit hallways of the medieval Playtime Co. factory had an unsettling familiarity. The heat from the torches and the rough texture of the stone bricks reminded you of Simon's castle back in the modern timeline. Despite the tension in the air, there was a strange comfort in the warmth and echoes of your footsteps.
Allister's hand gripped yours tightly, grounding you, while Simon rested on your shoulder, his small plush form swaying gently with each step. The three of you followed Sylis as she led the way through another iron door. The hinges creaked as it swung open, revealing a dark room. Sylis stepped inside and pulled a large switch on the wall.
With a mechanical hum, overhead lights flickered to life, illuminating the space. It was another testing room, lined with archaic yet advanced equipment. The atmosphere felt heavy, almost suffocating.
Without warning, Sylis reached for Simon and plucked him from your shoulder. He let out a surprised squeak, but before you could react, she placed him in a glass cylinder at the center of the room. The cylinder closed with a sharp hiss as Sylis turned to a nearby computer and began typing furiously.
"Allister, what's happening?" you whispered, unease creeping into your voice.
Allister approached the cylinder and placed his large hand against the glass. Inside, Simon pressed his tiny plush paw to the same spot, his eyes wide but trusting.
"It's going to be okay," Allister said, though his voice betrayed his uncertainty.
You couldn't shake the growing dread in your chest. Something was off, but you couldn't put your finger on it.
Suddenly, the cylinder began to fill with a reddish-purple gas. It swirled like a living entity, casting eerie shadows on the walls. Simon looked at you and smiled, trying to reassure you, but as the gas thickened, his expression changed. His small eyes widened in panic, and his plush body began to twitch and squirm violently.
"Simon!" you shouted, running to the glass and banging on it. "Simon, are you okay? What's happening?"
Allister turned on Sylis, grabbing her by the shoulders and spinning her around. "What are you doing to him?" he growled, his voice low and dangerous.
Sylis didn't respond. Her head lolled to the side, and her hollow eyes stared back at Allister. Blood streaked down her face, pooling at the corners of her lips. It took a moment for the truth to sink in-she had killed herself, her body limp and lifeless.
"No... no, no, no!" Allister muttered, letting her body fall to the ground.
You barely noticed. Your focus was entirely on the cylinder. As the gas began to dissipate, a figure became visible within.
The sight made your stomach drop.
It wasn't the Simon you knew. Standing inside the cylinder was the grotesque, failed experiment version of Simon-the same monstrous form he had taken when he attacked Touie back at the beginning of this nightmare. His crooked arms and legs looked painfully disjointed, his facial features were warped beyond recognition, and his body language radiated fury and despair.
You stumbled back, falling to the cold stone floor. "SIMON!" you screamed, your voice breaking.
The creature inside the cylinder turned its twisted head toward you. For a brief moment, its glowing eyes softened, as if Simon's true self was still in there, trying to reach you. But then, a guttural roar erupted from his throat, and he began thrashing against the glass, the sound of his claws scraping against it sending shivers down your spine.
"Allister! What do we do?" you yelled, scrambling to your feet.
Allister was already moving. He grabbed a nearby weapon-a large, crude sword that had been left in the room-and positioned himself between you and the cylinder. "We stop this before it gets worse."
"No!" you cried, grabbing his arm. "That's still Simon in there! We can save him!"
The glass began to crack under Simon's relentless assault. With a deafening crash, it shattered, and Simon's monstrous form stepped out, his heavy, disfigured limbs dragging across the floor.
"Simon, it's me!" you said, stepping forward cautiously, your heart pounding. "I know you're in there. Fight this!"
For a moment, the creature hesitated. Its glowing eyes locked onto yours, and you saw something-a flicker of recognition. But it was gone as quickly as it came. Simon let out another roar and lunged toward you.
Allister reacted instantly, pulling you out of the way and slamming the flat of the sword against Simon's side, knocking him back.
"We don't have time for this!" Allister shouted. "He's not in control!"
"But he can be!" you argued, tears streaming down your face.
Simon's monstrous form advanced again, his movements jerky but powerful. You knew you couldn't let this continue-not like this.
Clutching the electric gun Allister had given you earlier, you aimed it at Simon. "Simon, please," you whispered, your voice shaking. "Come back to me."
You fired.
The bolt of electricity hit Simon square in the chest, and his body convulsed violently. He let out a pained cry, and for a moment, you thought you'd lost him entirely. But then, his form began to shift. The grotesque features started to recede, his limbs straightened, and his body shrank.
When the light faded, Simon lay on the floor-not in his plush form, but not fully restored either. He was somewhere in between, his body weak but recognizably him.
You dropped the gun and ran to him, cradling his trembling form in your arms. "Simon," you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
He looked up at you with tired eyes. "I'm... sorry," he murmured before passing out.
Allister knelt beside you, placing a hand on your shoulder. "We need to get out of here. Now."
You nodded, holding Simon close as you rose to your feet. Together, the three of you hurried back toward the portal, the sounds of the factory's monstrous inhabitants echoing in the distance.
