A/N :

Hey everyone! First of all Happy New Year! I wish you all the best for 2025 and hope you've enjoyed the Holidays! Sorry, I know I haven't updated in a while but I was super busy with finals and life. I can finally say that I am done with my exams though, so expect some more frequent updates from now on :)

Anyways, hope this chapter is worth the wait and remember that you can still leave questions in the comments (if you have any) for the Q&A!

"(Y/n)!"

There was no mistaking whose voice had just called her name, and the realisation sent a chill of dread down (Y/n)'s spine. Tobias had somehow managed to get away from Jasper and the guards and had successfully found his way over to her.

Of course he did.

Tobias was a Protective, his sixth sense probably flared when Marcus pushed (Y/n) off the window and pain flared through her broken ankle and ribs. (Y/n) should have been ready for this eventuality, but she had been so happy to finally make it out and so focused on dragging herself as far away from Tobias's home as possible that she hadn't even considered the possibility of Tobias catching up.

Tobias finding her was no surprise, what was though, was him successfully getting away from Jasper and the guards who had been keeping a close eye on him in case he was in fact a criminal by Infected Law. However, as (Y/n) turned around to look her previous captor in the eyes, things became abundantly clear.

Her eyes widened, stomach coiling with raw disgust at the sight of a blood drenched Tobias. There was so much of it, too much of it, it clung to his clothes and reeked off of him. The smell, sickening and overwhelmingly sweet, had (Y/n) gagging and her insides churning.

"It's not mine, don't worry." Tobias reassured, but his voice that usually represented a steady anchor for (Y/n) now sounded nothing like the friend she had known to care for.

"What-What happened?" (Y/n) willed herself to speak the words, almost surprised as pain shot through her ribcage at the attempt. With the adrenaline, she had been able to push through, but now the pain of her broken ribcage was coming back full force, sharp and excruciating, and powered by the additional impact she had made with the ground just a few minutes ago. "What-What have you done?"

Still, she couldn't let herself be overwhelmed by this, she had to continue and get away from him. But all she could see was dark crimson, all she could smell was sweet metal, all she could hear was the blood pulsing in her ears, and all she could feel was the lacerating pain of her broken bones scraping against her tender flesh. Gone was the control she had over her limbs, gone was the adrenaline that had pushed her forward up until now. Her body remained frozen, paralysed by a brewing mix of fear and shock.

I have to move. I have to move. I have to- I have to move.

Tobias crouched down in front of her, carefully extending his hand towards her face like a child making first contact with a fearful bunny. (Y/n) flinched as his hand graced her skin, smearing warm sticky blood on her cheek. Tobias didn't retract his touch though, and instead cupped her face in his hand to draw soothing circles with his thumb on her skin.
