Jody Pov

Me and daryl had just dropped our son off at mamas with merle. I hated leaving him but I was knew that he would be very bored looking at houses.

"Excited?" Daryl asked me and I nodded my head

"I think so. A little nervous too."

"Don't be. If we don't find one today, then that's fine. We have a lifetime together to figure this out," he reminded me, kissing my ring covered finger. I loved being engaged to daryl and I couldn't wait until he could call me his wife

The first house we looked at was pretty much the same as our apartment. It was beautiful and modern but i couldn't feel at home. It was so different from where I grew up. I hated the trailer and I hated my childhood. But atleast there was some colour in there. Alot of the homes seemed to be very pale. There was no dark wood or carpets

The second house was incredible. It was a cottage and I would've snatched it up in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the distance. I could tell daryl felt the same. It was too far away from everything

The 3rd and final house felt like home. It had 3 bedrooms upstairs, 1 bathroom. And there was a bathroom downstairs aswell as a big enough living room and a kitchen

"What do you think?" Daryl asked

"I love it. And you know, that extra room means we could grow our little family."

"Oh yeah? You think  about that?" He asked, wrapping his arms around me and kissing my cheek

I nodded against him. "All the time. I want Daniel to have a little brother or sister to play with."

"When?"

"Maybe once he starts at school. Might be easier than having 2 babies in the house. And I always imagined myself going to pick up our little boy from school, pushing a pram along with you."

I could feel him smirking against my skin causing butterflies to float around in my stomach

"I love you Mrs dixon!"

I put my finger to his lips and shushed him. "Not quite yet. Although I can't wait for that."

We couldn't get anywhere until we sold our apartment, but it was still nice to have a look. It was certainly on our list and there were some more property viewings booked for later on in the month. In the meantime, we drove to mama's trailer to pick up Daniel

"Mama, we're home!" I yelled out as I walked in. There was no reply. Daryl wasn't far behind me. The trailer was only small, so didn't take long to search at all

"Where are they?" Daryl asked

"Maybe they went to the park or something."

"It's dark out."

"Like we never went to the park at night," I said, trying to stop him from worrying. I knew my mama could take care of Daniel but when I heard crying coming from one of the bedrooms, my heart dropped

I ran in and saw Daniel under the bed, his feet sticking out. "Baby, what's wrong?" I asked, lifting him up. Mama and dada were the only words he could say so far so I didn't expect him to reply

"Did they just leave him here?" Daryl asked angrily

"No...they wouldn't...would they?"

"That's what it looks like."

"Merles not that stupid and mama has been begging for time with Daniel since he was born. You know how much she loves him. She would never leave him alone."

Daryl didn't seem convinced and angrily stormed out of the trailer, only to see his father sat, smoking a joint

"Haven't seen you in a  while. This your boy?" Will Dixon asked, getting up from his chair

Daryl stopped reluctantly and let will have a look at the baby, although he wouldn't hold him

"Do you know where merle is?"

"Yeah. Police came and took him and your mama away."

"What? Why?"

"Do I look like a fucking news reporter?"

"Don't talk to her like that!" Daryl shouted, ushering me and Daniel into the car

We drove to the station in silence, both of us having so many unanswered questions that made our minds flood.

When we got there, I stayed in the car with Daniel, not wanting him to see the inside of a prison. I had seen it many times as a child and it never got easier

Eventually, daryl walked out of the station and got into the car, putting his head in his hands. "What's wrong?" I asked. He wasn't sad. But he was definitely angry

He ran his fingers through his hair and took a deep breath. "There was an anonymous tip off and they've been arrested for drug use. They have been tested and are being held overnight because they were found to have cocaine in their system."

"That's ridiculous."

"Is it?"

"They wouldn't. Not around Daniel."

"The tests don't lie, Jody!"

"Don't yell at me! Its not my fault!"

He lowered his voice. "Sorry. I know. I am just so angry at both of them. This is our son, and they put him in danger."

I rubbed his back soothingly and leant over to kiss his cheek, then resting my head on his shoulder. "What do you want to do?"

"He's my brother."

"You know we can't let either of them be in his life until they're clean, don't you?"

"I know."

"Maybe we should get that cottage."

"What?" He asked, turning to me

"It was gorgeous and the only thing putting us off was Daniel being away from family. But maybe thats what's best," I admitted, unable to stop myself from crying

"I can't believe they've fucked this up so badly."

"Me neither. But whatever we do from this moment forward is for our boy, not for them. I sure as hell am not spending money that could be spent on Daniel, to bail them out!"

Daryl nodded in agreement. The ride home was silent and solemn. Neither of us knew what we could possibly say to make the situation better.
