Life isn't how people expect it to be. They think it's going to be all rainbows and candy, passion and fortune. They ignore the fact that if you don't work for everything, you're not going to get anything. If you don't face your problems, they're gonna get worse and worse until boom, your life sucks.

Hi, I'm Scarlett Moore. I'm 16 years old and think way too much for my own good. In class, teachers think I'm daydreaming about vampires when I'm actually trying to figure out what the fuck the person who invented homework was thinking. (I looked it up later and found out that the word homework is derived from the Greek words hom and workos which literally translates as "death by torture" ((this might be BS, but I like it better than the thought of homework meaning work done at home)))

I'm what you would consider a hipster. I do everything before it's cool. Really, I'm just an unpopular trendsetter, but the cool kids don't approve of my ahead-of-the-craze taste, so they 'discover' everything a week after I do. Just another reason to hate them all, I guess.

I was sitting in the back of the math room, staring out the window. Today's contemplation was why donuts are called 'donuts' rather than 'doughnuts' or 'bread rings with icing.'

"Scarlett!" a voice hissed.

Jerking back to the present, I turned to see who had spoken. Katie Crama was leaning towards me from three seats away, sneering.

"Are you dreaming about why you're gonna die alone?" she said.

I was about to come back saying, 'No, stupid, that was last Tuesday.' but something made me doubt that would make me look any cooler than Katie was making me feel.

I ignored her comment and went back to looking out the window. Soon after the bell rang signaling it was lunch. I grabbed my books and walked to the lunch room.

When I got there, I saw my only friend Hannah leaning against a wall in the back of the room.

"Hey girly! How is your day going?" Hannah asked.

"Fine? Why so happy?" I asked.

It was odd that Hannah was being so happy she usually was just normal. I guess she was happy everyday but she was never really like this. I knew something was up because we have been friends since seventh grade and now we are in our sophomore year of high school.

"Can't a girl be happy?!" Hannah asked with a huge smile on her face.

"Um no. What's going on?" I was beyond weirded out this is not normal for her.

"Okay maybe someone asked me out." Hannah stated.

"What? Who?!?" I exclaimed.

"Tyler. Carters best friend!" Hannah squealed.

I was shocked I stood there with my mouth wide open.

Hannah started laughing. I sat down and just starred off into space. She broke our promise from when we where in seventh grade. We promised each other that we would never ever date a popular kid even if they were cute. I mean I guess Tyler was cute but I felt betrayed. I got up from my seat and walked out of the cafeteria.

When I walked out I noticed that Carter and Katie were in the hallway they were walking and talking. Probably about stupid shit like usual. If someone payed me a hundred bucks to date Carter I would never ever even do it. He was a selfish, cocky, popular kid who thinks he is all that. Honestly, if you talked to him all you would talk about was him.
