Chapter 2: M-K2 and F-G9

The alarm buzzes and I know it's time for me to get up, otherwise I will be late. I drag my self out off bed and stretch. Once I'm out of bed I get ready into a dress and some knee high socks with a cute pair of ankle boots. I grab my books and bag and run downstairs. I open the front door when my mum shouts from upstairs,
"Amelia, don't forget your vitamins !"
The husky voice gives away that she's still in bed. I turn and get the two packets from the cupboard and shout back,
"Got them! Thanks mum, Love ya!"
I turn back around and close the door behind me. I don't understand the vitamins, nobody eats anything else but them. We have them for breakfast and lunch and at dinner. I open the sashet and pop one in my mouth, it tastes metallic and a bit salty. It has always had the same taste from when I can remember. It's horrible, if I could have anything else I would!
I follow the lighted path and make my way to town. It will only take 10 minutes because I don't live far away.
It feels weird today, the artificial light that hovers above me. The light that is always on, that guides you and protects you from outside. Whatever, like I believe that crap. I heard that, before our kind of humans, there were other humans. But they were dumb and  never cared about how they damaged the earth and only cared for themselves. Hopefully this year we will learn more. You don't get told much about the generation before us until senior year. I have no idea why.
I turn right onto Main Street and see the school. I hear a distant scream but it's none of my concern. So I keep walking and I enter the school.
                              * * *
"So today, we are learning about us. Learning about The System. Everything you question about our world, we will tell you all about it."
Mr. Clark says with a sneer and carries on,
"Today. We are learning about food. And why we eat what we eat. Everyone turn to page 47 in your text books."
I open the book in front of me and turn it to page 47 as Mr.Clark instructed. I think back to this morning, the vitamins. We are learning about them, finally !
'Our food' it says as a title and underneath is a picture of the vitamins I took this morning. Underneath the picture is a large bit of text reading,
'The foods we eat today are nothing compared to what the humans hundreds of years ago ate. They ate luxurious foods that eventfully made them fat and then die. Our kind can't let this happen. Therefore we have vitamins that contain the goods that will create a strong and healthy human.  M-K2 and F-G9 are the two important vitamins we take on a daily basis. M-K2 helps keep the body functioning, keeps the body moving and to not tire. F-G9 keeps the intelligence and creative brain going. Both are important to take as an adult otherwise you have a serious risk of going unconscious. For children under the age of 15 they can take the supplement 3 times a day but they have to take at least 2. From ages over 15, they must take the vitamins no matter what.'
Wow this is a lot to take in, but I don't see why we learn about this kind of stuff now. It's ridiculous. What if I was 15 and nobody told me to take them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. What then ? I would go unconscious ? People should be told about this kind of stuff earlier. I look on the other page, page 48, and see and pyramid with food in. Yes, the food pyramid. It shows you all the different types of category's of food the other humans used to eat. They look weird. I would gladly choose them over these damn vitamins though. I carry on reading the next hunk of writing,
'Why don't we eat all the same foods as the humans before us did hundreds of years ago?'
Maybe the humans before us ate more then they should? That's why they died?
'Humans before our kind ate a good variety of food, some healthy and some full of fat. But all there foods would lead to them being over weight and they would eventually die. It's horrible to think that they all died because of that, but it's fact. We are lucky to be here.
(Look at page 49, it tells the story of how we are here today!)
So if perhaps, we were to eat those foods that the humans before us ate. We would be sick and would be ill for a great deal of days, (or even weeks!) '
I look up from my book wanting to take a break and see Mr.Clark looking back at me with a hard expression. I hold onto his state until eventually he looks away and marches over to the back of the classroom, to where I am. I watch as he walks past me and grabs hold a heap of papers hidden behind a stack of books. He picks them all up and throws them in his bag.
So he wasn't staring at me, he was staring at these. But why would he look so angry about papers?
The bell went and Mr.Clark said
"We will learn about how we are here tomorrow. But for now, you are dismissed."
With that, he got hold of his bag and ran out the door. Everyone looked as if they didn't care so I decided not to either. I get my books and put them in to my bag. I stand up and duck my chair under the desk, when I find one of the leaflets Mr.Clark had thrown into his bag viciously. I pick it up and read the title, ' The Perfect Anthropoid!' What does that even mean ?
