I pop open the vitamin packet and put the vitamin in my mouth. I let it sizzle on my tongue with the horrible metallic flavour whizzing around. It's dreadful.
'Blub' says a familiar voice on my left as he sits down next to me. Vincent. I turn and he laughs at me. I realise I have puckered my lips and I immediately stop, (it's my concentrating face.)
"Hey!" I say and I smile at Vincent. I notice his cheeks are flushed and his seaweed coloured eyes are bright. I look away, cursing under my breath. He laughs more and says, "Hi, how are you ?"
I shrug my shoulders,
"I'm just a little tired, once I have this tablet I'll be fine."
He nods understandingly and looks towards the pile of books in front of me.
"What's with all them books, could I have a look at them?"
I nod as he takes them and reads the titles to himself. Reading the title then putting the book aside.
I rummage in my bag for my note book so I can tick off all the books I need to get and have got.
"Amelia, where did you get this?" Vincent says in a hard, cold tone I've never heard him use before. I look up from under the table and stare at him confused. I look towards his hands. It is that leaflet I stole from class earlier. I sit up straight in my chair and I look down at my own hands and just stare until Vincent talks again.
"Amelia. Ame -"
"Why does it matter?" I say sharply. I don't see why this is a problem and why he needs to know. It's nothing interesting, just some stupid leaflet.
I look up from my hands and I see Vincent exhales a loud breath that seems he has kept in. He narrows his eyes, "Why aren't you telling me? Look, if you tell me where you got it from, I'll tell you why I'm asking you. Okay?"
"Okay then" I growl at him. Then I explain. After I have told him, I say
"And that's it. There is nothing more to it then that. I don't see why it's so interesting for you to know how I got it. I don't understand why it's a problem?"
He has a calm expression on his face suddenly. That makes me a lot more calm. I immediately stop sitting up straight in my chair and I let my shoulders hunch.
Vincent lets out another breath, but this one is less sharp then the other one. He bites into his bottom lip hard and he pulls a funny face. I hold back my laugh and I clear my throat. Vincent snaps out of his daydream and says, "Amelia, I will explain everything. But it's not safe here. I'll meet you near the gate after school. Your coming to my house."
I frown at him, trying to remember what it is that is tugging at my brain. "Vincent. I..."
I get cut off by Vincent's immediate move of his chair and him standing up. He smiles and says,
"What's wrong?"
I say back, remembering that I have a doctors appointment at the hospital, "Vincent, can't do tonight. Tomorrow?"
With that Vincent slides off his backpack, finds a pen and a piece of paper, writes something down, slides the note across to me and then winks at me. Then he's gone. I laugh at him as he walks off, tears bubbling my vision.
I get the note and read:
'My dear friend Amelia.
This is my phone number.
Phone me sister !!
All will be explained.
From your true pal always,
Vincent ! xo - 4579 858 26790'
I laugh and stuff the note into my pocket. He's such a freak sometimes.
