Under my thick jacket my heart hammered against my ribs, sending my breathing into short shallow gasps. Slick rain thundered down onto the ceramic tiles of the roof. I was terrified; dead afraid. I clutched tighter to the tiles, hooking my fingers into any gap possible. Any moment I could fall to my death.
My body was stiff with fear. My hair hung in my face, rain drenching every part of exposed skin. The night sky was cruel and unforgiving; I could see only the pale luminous streaks of moonlight that cased shadows over everything around me. My fear and panic was replaced with a sudden thought.
Without even mentally deliberating my idea; I held my breath and edged my way down the tiles. My heart fluttering faster than before, the tips of my fingers began to go numb, harsh rain pummelling against my body.
Suddenly my foot slipped out of place. Before I could move, before I cold blink. My whole body was plunged downwards, sliding down the tiles, faster, rougher. I tried to let a shriek but only a husk of air left my mouth. More rapidly I was sliding down until I felt my legs fall over the slope.
Before my whole body would descend over, I frantically reached out. My hands came into contact with something sharp and smooth. Definitely the guttering I thought. It’s ridged edge dug in my hands making them throb with pain. My body felt heavy, tired. I swung forwards hitting the wooden trellis that was attached to the wall; ivy weaved up it. I dropped down from the guttering and latched onto the trellis. Splinters pricked at skin as I quickly climbed down the spoiled wood rubbing my skin raw.
I shuddered with relief as my feet hit the ground. A flash of lighting cracked through the night sky, followed by a low tremble of thunder that shook my very being. My feet were burning and stinging. Moments after the thunder, I bolted faster away from the house; I had to escape. Blood pulsed faster through my veins, making my breathing becoming more rapid.
The aching pain in my body was replaced with a burst of adrenaline. I propelled myself faster in any direction because right now. I had to escape.
I ran past ugly tower blocks of harsh grey flats, through countless amount of streets. Down dingy alleys and across abandoned land, glass slicing my feet. I couldn’t care less about the pain. I just wanted to get as far away as I could. For what seemed like hours thunder and lightening battled between each other, the rain had subsided into a light drizzle. My feet reluctantly moved while I felt like collapsing. I stopped still. I stood alone in the dark. I had no idea where I was. There was concrete under my feet; solid and wet.
The night had seemed to become more peaceful. Faceted stars bravely glimmered in the sky accompanied by a crescent moon spilling pale light over the grounds.
It was completely dark now. But I felt like I was being watched. It’s best to trust your instincts but the downside was I couldn’t see anything. I heard heavy breathing. Then silence again.
“What do you want?” I managed to choke out. I breathed in short little bursts as though I was drowning and needed air. My luck doesn’t last long. I had just managed to escape from that malicious household and now this person may take me to be sold or worse still, drink my blood.
“You of course,” a pleasing male voice cracked through the air.
“I have nothing of any use to you, now leave,” I spoke more confident.
“I believe you do young lady.” He said now almost in a kind voice. But that was their façade and I was defiantly not falling for it. The moonlight glinted of his set of knife-sharp fangs acquainted with a pair of scarlet red eyes.
“Seriously, I’m not going to take your shit any longer, you even take one drop of my blood and that’ll be the end of you, vampire.” I had left nearly everything behind when I runaway, apart from my necklace around my neck and the silver stake I kept hidden in my jacket.
“Brave words from a human, may I ask what is your name?” He said it like poetry.
He stepped closer; I got a better look at his profile. He was tall just over 6ft, jet-black hair just like the night, slick with rain. He looked young eighteen maybe.
“Alexandria. Now go.” I demanded.
“Alexandria what? A surname would be nice to know.” He questioned.
“It’d be better if you didn’t know that much but since I answered you. Leave me alone!” I shouted.
He stepped even closer his shoes making a tentative ‘clack clack’ sound against the wet ground. To close for comfort I thought. I slipped my hands into my jacket and I met the cold metal hilt of my stake. My fingers skimmed its slippery surface and I gripped I tighter.
I was frozen on the spot my body wouldn’t move to my command.
“What have you done?” I spoke mortified. Normally I could somehow reject vampires’ magic abilities. Maybe he was too powerful for me to take on.
“Stop trying to resist my power you foolish girl,” He grinned, obviously pleased with himself, he continued, “Now I can get what I wanted.”
I closed my eyes, I was hopeless now, and I was trapped in the clutches of a vampire. Not a very good place to be. Hopefully he wouldn’t completely drain me and kill me. Maybe I would be bitten then sold as a slave. A slave… back to were I started. I had only just escaped.
My eyes snapped open as I felt his sharp nails drag across my right wrist. Not deep enough to seriously hurt me but enough that my blood flowed out freely. My left hand was still inside my jacket gripping my stake, though I still couldn’t move. He picked up my wrist and brought it to his mouth. I forced all of my energy trying to break out of his frozen vampiric trance. It was useless. I glared at him as he tongue ran down the length of the cut, lapping at the blood as it seeped out. I watched as his fangs retracted, longer and sharper. I have never been bitten and I definitely didn’t want to. Just as he was going to break the surface of my skin,
“Wait!” I screeched, my voice horse and dry.
Instantly he dropped my wrist and his gaze met mine.
“Don’t kill me” I whispered. Now I felt sick. It hit me like a wave. My body was burning in pain. I looked at the vampires face a spasm of emotions briefly showed. My body was trying to hard to escape the trance.
“Alexandria?” He asked confused.
Finally he stopped his trance. And I screamed. It hurts…so much. I bent over, gripping myself together as if it would stop the pain. I had no idea what was happening, but it was him, right? Now able to move my feeble frame I clutched my stake and bolted upright. My body screaming in pain. I ignored it. The vampire’s eyes were no longer that blood red colour but now he mixed in with the darkness. I launched at him, he look merely surprised. But then my vision went black. Then did my world.
