Silently I followed Raven out of the study. Once again he was in front of me with his fast paced steps,
“Why is your blood black?” I suddenly blurted out.
A few moments passed and still not a word from him. I guess he is choosing to ignore me.
We walked up flights of stairs and higher and higher up in the house.
I read a small sign that read ‘Maids Wing’ on the back of the door. He stopped here.
“Right, I want you to keep your head down and do not speak to anyone, is that clear?” He said with his back to me.
“Crystal,” I replied.
Then without another word he briskly stepped into the room, and I stumbled behind him and kept my head to the ground just watching his shoes. As we entered the room I heard a chorus of voices then I guess as I came into view those voices turned into whispers, I could feel people staring at me as if I were a lizard with several heads. Then we walked out into a quieter space.
“You can look around now”
I picked up my head and I was in a small bedroom. There was a simple single bed with dark blue covers; on the opposite side to it was a dresser and a shelf. Then I looked at the walls and oddly enough there was a window, it shed a tiny amount of light but I seemed to suddenly like this little room a lot. There was another door… hopefully a bathroom …
Absentmindedly I sat on the bed and just stared out of the window and that was when I realised how high up I was. It made me feel a little dizzy but I looked further into the distance and saw the great grey outline of the chaotic city Faytallion.
“You really should get yourself cleaned up,” a calm voice interrupted my track of thought.
I shuffled round and just saw the end of a tailcoat disappear out of the door.
He’s fast, and do I really look bad… come to think about it I haven’t washed for four days.
I looked at my bare feet then at the soles… covered in dirt. I dreaded to think what my hair looked like. I made my way to the other door, BINGO, a bathroom. I had to say it is a lot more luxurious than the bedroom. Then to my horror I saw my reflection in the full-length mirror.
My layered dark-brown hair was sticking up in all directions as if I’d been dragged through a hedge. My pale skin was smudged with dirt and god knows what else, my once bright and curious green eyes were now tired looking and bloodshot. My jacket was torn in several places; I looked like hell.
Slipping of my rag-like clothes I jumped into the shower, the warm water ran down my body soothing and washing away the dirt.
What would tomorrow bring?
