She looked at him with a confused yet sacred expression. Her gaze snapped toward the window, only to be met with an overwhelming void of darkness. No streetlights illuminated the abandoned area—it was desolate and foreboding. Fear prickled under her skin as her eyes turned back to him. She hated the darkness, but he didn’t know that.
“Why?” she whispered, her voice trembling as fear gripped her insides. Was he going to leave her here, in the middle of this lifeless, dark road, where not a soul existed?
Her eyes scanned his face, desperate to hear the reassurance she craved. Don’t go out, she willed him to say. But his expression remained as cold and unreadable as ever, devoid of emotion.
Finally, he sighed, setting his phone down. His hard gaze shifted toward her, sending a shiver racing down her spine. The silence thickened, wrapping around them like a suffocating blanket. Without a word, he unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the car door, and stepped out.
Her heart thudded painfully in her chest as unease washed over her. She watched him circle around the car and open her door. His face remained impassive, unreadable, as though her fear was invisible to him.
Without warning, he grabbed her wrist—firmly but not harshly. There was strength in his grip, something that almost bordered on possessiveness. She stumbled slightly, startled, before standing upright in front of him. Her scared eyes watch the place where only darkness exists.
“Come with me,” he ordered, his deep voice cutting through the silence.
Her heart sank further. He didn’t care about her fear, dragging her forward into the suffocating darkness. His pace was fast compared to her, her steps do not meet with his making her difficult to walk. She could barely see where she was stepping. Suddenly her feet tripping over unseen obstacles.
