*Alexi*
As I stare out Cal's car window, the suburban houses passing by, a million thoughts are running through my head. Am I ready to be a mom? Do I even know how to take care of a child? How do I keep my child safe? How will my parents react? Will they kick me out for getting pregnant when I'm still a teenager? What about school? What will the other students think of me when I show up all plump, my belly stretched from my unborn child. Will they laugh? Stare? Be discussed? Will I be bullied?
Yeah no, Cal would probably kill anyone who bullies me.
I'm pulled away from my spiral by thoughts when Cal says,
"We're here." After a very zoned out day to school, we pull into the driveway to my house, and Cal hops out of the car. I follow before he has a chance to open my door for me, something I know he would try and do. We walk to the front door and I unlock it to be immediately tackled into a hug by Elsie.
"Ali!" Elsie giggles happily. "I missed you!"
"I just saw you this morning," I replied.
"I know, but I still missed you," she says sweetly. Even through my questions of the future, my adorable little sister reminds me of the other aspects of having a child. I'd get to be a mother, raise a beautiful kid, a combination of my mate and I. I'd start my own incredible family with Cal, with maybe children who I would adore with all my heart. When I think of all the good things that would come out of this child inside me, all my doubts and worries are washed away.
I smile sweetly at her and give her a big hug, lifting her up a bit and swinging her around and she giggles happily. I set her down before leading both Cal and Elsie into the house. I set Elsie up with some drawing supplies to keep her occupied, leaving Cal behind to watch her for a moment while I hunt down my parents in the house. As expected, I find my Papa in his office, tinkering with some kind of witchy device--who knows what it does.
"Papa?" I say as I knock twice on the already half open door, something my dad does often. He doesn't get much time to himself to work, but when he does, he can't help but leave the door ajar just in case anyone needs him.
"Hey, how was school?" he says, looking up from his project.
"It was good, but...can you come to the living room for a family meeting?" I ask watching his reaction, noticing he picks up on my hesitation. he gives me a questioning look but then smiles slightly and says,
"Of course." I sigh in relief. I don't know what I was expecting, it must be some pregnancy hormones, but I was almost worried he'd say no, or at least question me more.
As I'm leaving my papa's office, the smell of my mom's blood wafts into my nose. At first I panic thinking something is wrong, that my mom had some accident in the garage with one of her projects. Then I recognize that my mom's scent is coming from the same place as my dad, who smells like he's in his true vampire form. He must be feeding, I think to myself.
I walk over to the garage and note that the door is locked. I knock before raising my voice to speak though it--not too loud as to be painful for my dad but loud enough that my mom can hear.
"Hey, I'm calling a family meeting, so just...be done soon I guess." and with that I walk away back into the house, not waiting for a response. I head into the living room, happy to see my papa chatting with my mate. But I know the friendliness wont last long. As soon as my parents find out Cal knocked up their 16 year old son they very well might kill him.
I take my seat next to Cal on the couch, my papa sitting on the recliner next to it. We idly chat for a bit before my mom and dad come stumbling in. they both look a little embarrassed to be caught in the act but otherwise take their seats peacefully. Once everyone is settled and looking at me, I waste no time getting started.
"Ok, so I-we have something to tell you," I say, correcting myself to include Cal as, of course, it takes two to tango. my parents stare at me, anticipation written on their faces. even my sister who has been drawing on the coffee table looks up from her masterpiece. before when i was gathering everyone I wasn't feeling the nerves, but now, i'm kind of freaking out. I have no idea how they'll react. Will they scold me? yell? reassure me that everything will be ok? will they be happy? disappointed? So many questions. I could be wondering for hours, but the only way to know for sure is to tell them.
"I'm pregnant."
silence.
Elsie is the first one to speak, react, do anything. She grins and runs up to me, hugging me tight, then pulling away and kissing my belly.
"Hi baby," she says softly, "I'm Elsie. I can't wait to play with you." My heart melts at her words and before I know it stupid pregnancy hormones are making me cry again. Cal is instantly pulling me into a hug, calming me down in seconds. I wipe away my tears and look back to my parents.
"I had my suspicions," my dad says calmly. my mom reacts in an instant.
"What?! You knew and you didn't say anything?" she says.
"Well, it's not my place to tell. And I wasn't sure either. Ali just started smelling a little different the past few weeks but that all. " he says defensively.
"Even so, why aren't you freaking out a bit more? Victor, he's 16! That's way too young to be having a child!" my mom says sternly.
"Syd, he's a werewolf. Werewolves have kids young, usually as soon as they find their mate, and Ali has." Dad says, then turns to me and says, "Ali, I'm happy for you, and if this is what you want then I'll support you no matter what."
"Thanks dad, and this is what I want."
"What about school?" my papa says, speaking up for the first time.
"Well, it's not like I had any plans to go to college. I only plan to be the pack's Luna alongside Cal, having children and live a peaceful life,"I explained to him.
"That's great and all, I won't press you about further education, but you still have to finish high school, there's no question about that." my papa says flatly.
"deal" he looks shocked by my simple compliance. The thing is, I always planned to finish high school. I may have to take some breaks to take care of my newborn but I will still try my best to graduate.
my papa smiles and gives me a reassuring nod, showing his support. Now all that's left is my mom.
she sighs, making a show of her frustration before speaking,
"Look, Ali, I love you with all my heart, and all though this may not be how I pictured your future, if this is how you picture yours, then I am happy for you. and I support you. besides, I have always wanted to be a grandma." tears threaten to fall again but i try my best to hold them back. Before I know it I'm wrapping my mom with a hug, my papa, dad and Elise joining in as well.
We stayed like that for a moment before I pulled back to see Cal sitting awkwardly on the couch, not really knowing what to do.
"Cal, you're part of the family too," I tell him before pulling him into the embrace as well. At this moment, my parents, sister, and mate all here, with my unborn child safely growing inside me, I couldn't be happier.
