Bellatrix’s POV
The morning air hung heavy with bittersweet tension as Rosalina clung to me, her small arms wrapped tightly around my neck. I could feel her little heart beating against mine, her warmth grounding me in this fragile moment. My chest ached with the thought of letting her go, even though I knew this was the best decision for her future.
"I promise, darling," I whispered softly, brushing a kiss against her temple. "I’ll visit you as often as I can. You’ll never have to miss me for long."
Her fingers tightened in my hair, her voice trembling. "But what if I get scared? What if I miss home?"
I cupped her face gently, looking into those wide, innocent eyes filled with love and fear. "Then you close your eyes, think of Mommy, and remember that I love you more than anything. No distance will ever change that, Rosalina."
Tears stung my eyes, but I blinked them back, determined to stay strong for her. Narcissa stood a few steps behind me, her composure fraying at the edges as she held back her own emotions. Even Lucius, stoic as ever, had a certain softness in his expression. We all knew that this moment marked a turning point—not just for Rosalina, but for our family.
Rosalina sniffled, burying her face in my shoulder. "I’ll miss you so much, Mommy," she murmured, her voice cracking with emotion.
"I’ll miss you too, my sweet girl," I said, my voice thick with love. "But you’re going to be so brave, and you’ll make so many new friends. And when you come home, you’ll tell me all about your adventures."
She nodded slowly, her tears dampening my robe. "Will you still tuck me in when I come back?"
"Always," I promised, my throat tight. "You’ll always have a place in my arms, no matter how big you grow."
The carriage driver cleared his throat gently, signaling that it was time. My heart shattered at the thought of letting her go, but I knew I had to. I kissed her forehead once more, inhaling the sweet, familiar scent of her hair.
"I love you, Rosalina," I whispered fiercely. "Always remember that."
"I love you too, Mommy," she whispered back, her voice barely audible.
With trembling hands, I helped her into the carriage. She turned to look at me one last time, her eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and courage. As the carriage began to pull away, I felt an ache deep in my soul, as though a piece of me was being carried off with her.
I stood there, frozen in place, watching until the carriage disappeared from view. Narcissa placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, but the emptiness lingered.
"She’ll be alright, Bella," Narcissa said gently. "She’s strong, just like you."
I nodded, though my heart still ached. "She’s my heart, Cissy. I just hope she knows how much she means to me."
Rosalina’s POV
The carriage wheels clattered softly beneath me as I sat by the window, watching the manor shrink into the distance. My heart felt heavy, like a storm cloud waiting to burst. I pressed my face against the cool glass, trying to be brave like Mommy told me, but the tears came anyway, hot and unstoppable.
I hugged the little stuffed rabbit Mommy had given me tightly to my chest. "It’s just you and me now, Bun Bun," I whispered shakily. "We have to be brave."
But it was hard to be brave when all I wanted was Mommy’s arms around me, her voice singing me to sleep, and the smell of lavender that always made me feel safe.
