"Are you serious Xiomara!?" McKenna yelled at her.
Xiomara crossed her arms, unfazed by McKenna's outburst. "Oh, I'm sorry—did I hurt your feelings?" she said, voice dripping with mock sympathy. "Because last I checked, you were the one who wrote a whole song about me first."
McKenna's face flushed red, whether from guilt or rage, Xiomara couldn't tell. "That was different!" she snapped. "I didn't diss you!."
Xiomara smirked. "Guess I'm just more creative."
McKenna let out an exasperated laugh, throwing her hands in the air. "You act like I ruined your life! I didn't even know he was with you when—"
"Oh, save it." Xiomara's voice hardened, her smirk disappearing. "You knew. Maybe you didn't care, maybe you told yourself it wasn't your problem, but you knew. And now you're mad that I finally got my turn to say something?"
McKenna opened her mouth, then closed it, clearly scrambling for a comeback. The tension between them was thick, their years of unspoken resentment bubbling to the surface.
Finally, McKenna scoffed, shaking her head. "You're so petty."
Xiomara raised an eyebrow. "And yet, you still listened to the whole playlist."
McKenna's jaw tightened. "You're insufferable."
"And you're still obsessed with me," Xiomara shot back. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than argue with someone who steals boyfriends and writes bad music about me."
She turned on her heel, leaving McKenna standing there, fists clenched, heart pounding. McKenna wanted to scream, to throw something, to win this argument—but deep down, she knew Xiomara had already won.
McKenna stood there, her nails digging into her palms, breath coming fast. She hated this—hated how Xiomara always got the last word, always acted untouchable, always made her feel like the villain in a story she hadn't even meant to be a part of.
But she wasn't going to let it end like this. Not again.
"You're such a hypocrite, you know that?" McKenna called after her.
Xiomara paused, glancing over her shoulder with an amused expression. "Oh? Do enlighten me."
McKenna stalked forward, her voice rising. "You act like you're so above all this, like you're just defending yourself. But if you really didn't care, you wouldn't have made that stupid playlist. You wanted me to hear it. You wanted to get under my skin."
Xiomara tilted her head. "And?"
McKenna's breath hitched. The way Xiomara said it—so casual, like she wasn't even denying it—made her stomach twist.
"And it's pathetic!" McKenna snapped. "You act like I'm obsessed with you, but look at you! You're still mad about something that happened months ago. You're still writing songs about me. You're still thinking about me!"
Xiomara's smirk wavered for a fraction of a second, but she recovered quickly. "Oh, sweetie," she said, voice dripping with condescension. "I'm not thinking about you—I'm thinking about how funny it is that you're this pressed over a playlist."
McKenna let out a sharp laugh, shaking her head. "You're so fake," she muttered. "You pretend like none of this bothers you, but if that were true, you'd just let it go."
Xiomara's expression darkened for the first time. Her jaw tightened, and for once, she didn't have a quick comeback.
McKenna took a step closer, her voice quieter now but just as sharp. "You're not over him either, are you?"
Xiomara's lips parted slightly, but no words came out. For a brief second, something flickered in her eyes—something vulnerable, something real.
Then, just as quickly, it was gone.
She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Please. I don't want anything to do with him."
McKenna let out a dry laugh. "Keep telling yourself that."
The words hung between them, heavy and unspoken truths lingering in the air. Neither one wanted to admit it, but maybe—just maybe—they weren't so different after all.
