(A/N: I know it's been a while. I should've put an update here and not just my profile but I just didn't. I lost my brother back in July and that's why I haven't updated. No need to apologize for asking for updates and please don't give condolences. It's a little hard to watch the movie knowing how obsessed he had been with it when we were younger, and I was only watching TMNT and Sonic because they were the only shows to get my mind off things. I'm doing a little better now, I guess. I'm not sure if I will do Cars 2 and 3 yet, I just can't make any commitments to that right now. Maybe I'll try to do a fluff chapter or something. But please, enjoy this longer chapter you've all been waiting for.
Also, (F F/N) stands for full father's name, first and last.)
You and the rest of your crew were ushered out of the pits with the conclusion of the race, as mandated, and were told to disrobe. All official gear, from outfits to headsets, were to be turned in. Luckily, since you had came in with the official Rust-eze 95 jacket, you were allowed to leave with it, no matter how badly security wished to take back the official Piston Cup property. Doc wouldn't allow them to take it, anyway.
While Chick's out crew was led near the victory podium, which had a monumentally-sized Piston Cup statue placed in its center, both the Rust-eze and Dinoco team were led back to the sponsor tents and trailer park near where you had originally entered from.
With Doc at the front of the group, he was first to approach McQueen's sponsors once security had taken their leave after leading you far enough. "How's it going, boys?" He extended out his hand, which the two old and, honestly, rundown brothers eagerly shook.
"Why, it really is The Hudson Hornet! Perfect, thanks to you!" The slightly older-looking brother beamed with a bright smile. "Name's Dusty!"
"I'm Rusty!"
"Nice to meet ya." Doc smiled. "Y'know, you've got quite the racer on your team."
The brothers smiled at Doc's compliment. "Yeah, he's quite something!" Dusty cheered. "I'm not gonna lie, this race wouldn't have gone so well if you hadn't shown up."
You stepped forward, a brow raised at the man's claim. "Why's that?"
They were in shock when they looked down to see McQueen's supposedly lost jacket clasped securely around your frame. The two then sent each other a knowing look, accompanied by a smirk, before answering your question. "He was just...out of sorts when he arrived."
"He had the same look on his face as we did when we first left home in our younger years." Rusty added on. "Homesick."
Your eyes slightly widened. Had McQueen actually missed you guys? So much so he couldn't get his head in a Piston Cup race? Probably the most important one of his career, at that? You were shaken from your thoughts when someone gently nudged your arm. Looking to Doc, the source of the push, he sent you an offended look as he nodded his head towards the two gentlemen. A blush of embarrassment rose to your cheeks. "I'm sorry! Where are my manners?" Approaching the two, you held out your hand for them to shake. "I'm (Y/N)! Doc's daughter-"
"And McQueen's girlfriend!?" The brothers quickly asked in unison, nearly cutting you off. Their excitement was clearly getting the best of them.
"No, no!" You waved them off sheepishly. "We're just friends...I think. I mean, we never said anything official!" Motioning to the jacket on your body, you were quick to back yourself up. "I only have this because he left it! I mean, he did lend it to me first, but I gave it back!" Doc quickly cupped his hand over your mouth with a playful roll of his eyes, desperate to shut you up and spare you from further embarrassment. Everyone around you merely chuckled at this.
As you all continued to wait for Lightning, everyone engaged in conversation, mostly telling Rusty and Dusty what had happened with McQueen during his mysterious disappearance. The two brothers also told you some of what they had dealt on their end, but for the most part, they just seemed relieved that he had been okay the whole time. You weren't sure, though, because you were just too anxious to see the racer in red that you weren't paying any attention.
