It was that one time I fell hard, the FIRST time I fell hard and that person didnt even know I existed. They saw me as.. a outcast..a geek. Nothing more than that. What bothered me about that was I liked him and he didn't know I was even alive. But I guess that's what you could say about everyone. They don't know who I am. I'm what you could say a no body. And no body's don't get noticed; til one day that all changed.I was at my locker, like usual, and I was getting ready for lunch. I was the new girl this year and it already felt horrible. I didn't want to try and make friends because I was to shy to say anything to any one because I wore braces and glasses. Some days I tried and people just looked away and started laughing. Great, I'm a joke, and then they all started talking about me. Not knowing what I should do I would always just walk away. But today was different, after I left my locker I ran into someone in the hallway, a cheer leader and a football player. The cheerleader, of course, pushed me.
"Watch where your going freak!" She almost screamed.
"Sorry, I didn't mean too." I whispered trying to get to lunch.
"What? I'm sorry I don't speak geek," said the football player.
"I'm sorry!" I yelled and ran down the hall, I ran into someone again.
"Hey, are you okay? I didn't see you." I looked up and I fell in love at first sight, I sort of just stood there for awhile looking at his perfection. His perfect jaw, his blue eyes, brown hair and wonderful body. He looked perfect and he had a angelic look on his face. Then my dream ended by a cheer leader wrapping her arm around him.
"Uh I'm fine, I-- I just get clumsy, I'm sorry." I started to collect my books. He started helping me and so did his girl.
"What's your name?" she asked.
"Mae Brownsten." I said shyly. She smiled.
"I'm Marley and this is Steven." She said. Steven, what a name.
I smiled, "Thanks for helping me, those other people didn't," I said.
they looked down the hall and looked at each other."Yeah they don't help any one but each other. Jackson Hall and Janney Sonet," Steven said.
"Yeah they're snobs, but stick with us and you'll be fine," Marley winked at me, at first I didn't know what she was saying but they motioned me to follow them.
Once we got to lunch I wanted to hide. They walked in like they owned the place and me.. well I was behind them trying to hide. Steven turned around and laughed. I blushed.
"What's so funny?" I asked confused.
"Come on, get up here," Steven grabbed my hand and pulled me up to the food stand. I wanted to hide even more now. I looked at the lunch lady and froze.
"Mom?!" I asked. Steven and Marley began to laugh. I blushed. She looked at me and smiled.
"Hello sweetheart, what do you want for lunch?" my mom asked. I wanted to cry.
"Don't call me that," I said. My mom giggled and put food on my plate. I walked away and sat over by a fake tree that was in the school. I just looked at my food and started to cry. Steven and Marley walked over to me; I was to embarrased to talk to them.
"Hey, we didn't mean to laugh at you." Steven said. Marley nodded in agreement.
I got up to walk away.
"Hey! Where you going?" Marley asked as she grabbed my wrist.
I looked at her and pulled away.
"I knew I shouldn't have trusted you," I mumbled. I ran to the bathroom and sat on a toilet.•••••••••••
After I got home I saw my mom reading her new cook book and I tried to run up stairs without her noticing but I tripped."Shit." I exclaimed in pain.
"Makaela Elizabeth Brownsten!" She yelled getting up, "What have I told you about cursing in this house?!" She threw her hands in desperation.
"Sorry mom." I said standing up. She looked at me concerned after her face of disgust vanished.
"Honey, are you okay? I mean from today at school.. I saw the way you looked at me and got so nervous around your new friends." She said sadly. "I didn't know I embarrssed you that much."
"It's not that mom, I didn't know you were going to be the lunch lady, and they aren't my friends." I mumbled.
She looked angry. "Well why not?"
"Because they laughed at me, for my mom being the lunch lady." I said looking away. It had really embarrssed me being her first day and all and she could've at least told me so I would've been prepared for the embarrassing moment.
"Well.." She said as if she had a secret.
"Mom what did you do?" I asked.
She gave me a cheesy smile. "I mi-" Before she finished I saw Marley and Steven walk out of the kitchen.
"M-mom!" I was furious, which was a understatement.
"Mae, we wanted to say we're sorry." Marley looked with a sad smile.
"We shouldn't have laughed at you, it was just how you.. Said it." Steven cut in.
"Mom, may we have some privacy?" I asked glaring.
"Of course sweetheart, I'll make snacks." She walked over and kissed my forehead, then walked off.
"I can't believe you two are here. What's the catch." I snarled.
"What catch?" Marley asked surprised as my mood and looks changed.
"For the past two weeks you two have been ignoring me like I was nothing but now you notice me, why?" I asked.
Steven sighed. "We are trying to be nice and you accuse us of doing something wrong?"
"What am I supposed to think being the joke of the school?" I asked sadly.
"Mae," Marley walked over and hugged me, "It's not a game, there's no catch. We just wanna be friends." She said unwrapping her arms from me as she notice how stiff I was.
"I can't be friends with you." I whispered. They looked at each other and Steven burst out laughing.
"That's funny M."
"Wait are you serious?" Marley asked confused.
"I'm serious.. You two are popular, and I'm a geek." I said staring at the ground about to cry. "I'm a joke.."
"Mae.." Marley reached out and grabbed my arm. I looked at her sternly and eased my look when she gave me a willing smile.
"I've never really had any friends, so I don't know how to be a friend." I became honest. "All I know is how people are, when they're nice they do something later...." I trailed remembering the reason why I had left my old school.
"Marley and I aren't them, Mae, please can you forgive us?" Steven reached out and grabbed me. I jerked away. I looked into his eyes and they seemed to be hurt.
"I'm sorry.." I whispered being embarrssed. "I forgive you though, but can you help me learn along the way?" I asked. They both nodded.
I smiled.
I finally had friends.
