Meanwhile, at the headquarters, the usual bustle of activity was halted when the crow finally arrived a few hours later. The headquarters was always a flurry of communication—Hashira receiving instructions, messengers delivering updates, Kakushi carrying out other tasks, crows circling above with critical intel—but this time, the air felt different. The crow's arrival was far from graceful, and it seemed to have trouble staying upright, its feathers disheveled and its movements sluggish. The moment it landed, the nearby members of the Corps froze, sensing the importance of the bird's arrival, despite the evident struggle in its flight. It was Giyuu's crow. He rarely sent him out unless it was urgent, and he had no other choice.
Finally, with a sharp caw, the crow squawked out a message, its voice raspy from the exhausting journey. "Hashira... Backup..."
One of the Kakushi members, usually tasked with organizing communications, stepped forward cautiously, sensing the gravity of the situation. "It's Giyuu-san's crow," they murmured, looking to the others for confirmation.
A few of the other Kakushi exchanged looks of unease while others gathered close, trying to make sense of the fragmented message the crow had delivered.
The crow let out another shaky caw. "Took... her..." The words were strained, as though the bird was struggling to maintain coherence through sheer exhaustion.
The Kakushi member who had stepped forward exchanged a glance with the others, their expressions hardening. "Took her?" one of them repeated, the words sharp and heavy as they sought confirmation. "What in the world is going on?"
The crow, clearly drained, faltered before it managed to continue, though the words came out slower this time as if the strain of the journey had nearly broken it. "Mission. Upper Rank... took her..." It seemed to sag as its energy dwindled, the bird's chest heaving as it fought to stay upright. "Y/n-san is in trouble. Giyuu and Shinazugawa-san need help..."
The room fell into a stunned silence. The normally efficient hum of activity at the Corps headquarters ground to a halt as the full weight of the message settled over the assembled members. The Kakushi, already on edge, exchanged anxious glances. Giyuu's crow had never been this disoriented or unsteady, but the words it carried were unmistakable—an Upper Rank demon had taken you.
One of the senior Kakushi quickly stepped forward, his expression tightening as he processed the words. "We need to relay this immediately to the Hashira," he said sharply. "Get the message to the Master and let everyone know what's happening. We cannot afford to waste time!"
