After church, I've shed all my tears and said my final goodbyes. I was going to miss Shantis the most. We've been through thick and thin since daycare days. On this long sixteen hour drive she was the only one on my mind.

It was a long ass drive but we are finally here. The first thing I noticed was all the kids on my street. And they seemed to notice me too. These kids didn't look nothing like kids in Georgia. They looked like they were ready to fight a new neighbor instead of greet.
But one boy did catch my eye. He was a lightskin with curly hair and pretty brown eyes. The way all the kids were all around him I could tell he was their ring leader.

I hoped I could talk to him at least once. But I get nervous talking to boys, so all I could do is hope.

We've only been here a week but these kids are already coming to the door asking can I come outside. But I have yet to meet any of them. They just call me "she" when they come to the door.

One day my mom makes me go. The nerve of this women. But I do as I'm told because that's my mommy and only a fool would dare not listen to her.

When I get outside all of the other kids are at the end of the street, except for one. She's smiling from ear to ear. I look her up and down scoping her out. She's not that bad to be a skinny lil' thang. She wore a floral halter top and black shorts. She was a natural, and her curls was tight and loose coils. Something I'd never be able to pull off, let alone wear out the house.

"I'm soo glad to meet you... uhh what's your name? My name is Namoi. I'm soo glad I get to be your very first friend since you moved hear...."

Boy did this girl had a mouth on her. She talked for what seemed like forever about pointless shit. I tuned her out. I couldn't get my mind off of this damn heat. It had to be like, 100 degrees out here.

"Hello ? You listening? What's your name?" Naomi's voice sounded a lil annoyed. I guess she asked me more than once.

"Oh. My name is LaShae." I didn't really know what more she wanted me to say.

"You seem shy. Are you shy ? Even if you are we can still be the best of friends. I see it. Like I can see the future." here she go again non stop talking. I don't know if I could be friends with this girl.

Later on she introduced me into some of the other neighborhood kids. Still none of which I see myself hanging out with.

It was getting late so I headed home. It was nice to get out of the house, but it was even better to be back in it. Daddy made curry chicken with his homemade dumplings. My favorite.

We usually just eat dinner in front of the TV, but today mommy wanted it to be different. We sat in the dining room with the glass table.

"So how was your day ?" My mommy looks very eager to hear what I had to say.

"Um it was good. I meet some people who live on this street. They seem alright, but not like my type of tea party. " My mommy and I have a good bond. I can tell her stuff as if she's a friend.

"Oh. That's too bad. But what about Naomi ? She seems nice. I talk to her mom. " Something in my mommy's voice told me she really wanted me to be her friend.

"Uh yeah, she's cool. " Mommy's face lit up with joy. I loved to see my parents happy. Especially when I'm the cause. It warms my heart.

"Oh good news LaShae!! You walk to school this year! Isn't that great ? "

Was she crazy ? Walk ? Everyday before and after school ? Forgive me if I sound like a brat but in my mind that would mean more conversation with them chicken head kids.
