Suha's pov.
I sat restless on the mattress, digging my fingers in it and then pulling them back with the sheet.
He can be here any day of this week. How will I handle everything? Will I be able to see him with someone else? What will be his reaction when seeing me after so long?
Huh, A year. It has been 365 days, 365 days full of struggle, where sorrows burst as seams and broken heart pollutes happiness.
What went wrong? Hamd and suha were perfect. Where did they go wrong?
My eyes started watering when I stood upright and ran towards the sink to splash water on my misery.
Just then, I heard a knock on my door.
"Coming." I announced, my voice still shaking.
I hurriedly splashed water on my face, wiped it with a towel and faltered to open the door.
"You?"
This face was the one I never wish to see, but Allah only knows why it is the one that I always see.
"Assalamualaikum." Greeted Arhan, dragging me out of my thoughts.
"Walaikum Assalam." I replied, checking if my scarf was on my head and Alhamdulillah, it was.
"You look sick. Are you okay?" He uttered with immense concern which he portrayed through his narrowed eyes.
"What are you here for?" I ignored his question. Obviously. I don't need to give him an explanation. I don't know why he keeps asking.
Sometimes, I feel bad for behaving the way I do with him but how else should I react? I can't just evince everything about my past to a stranger.
He's not a stranger now.
My conscience has a bad habit of arguing with me.
We're not even friends.
You could be. He's good. He looks like someone to be trusted.
No one could be trusted. I don't trust anyone.
You will trust him. I know. You know.
"Well, we're being called by Zidan."
"Zidan? Ya Allah. Show some respect." I glared at him and he chuckled.
"He's not that up in years." He explained.
"But he's up in position." I exclaimed, making him speechless.
Silence followed for a few minutes and then he spoke up.
"Hmm, so, you're coming?"
Duh!
I thought of really replying 'Duh' but that would be insulting him which I've already done enough, for today.
Ya Allah I sound so evil.
I giggled in my head.
"Yeah, would you like to have something? Tea or coffee?" I smiled.
He was taken aback by the sudden change in my behaviour.
"Did you think that I'll always be in that jhansi ki rani zone?" I gave a half suppressed laugh.
"I hoped not, but I was still in doubt." He ran his hands through his hair and chuckled. We chuckled, while he was still standing outside the door.
