The most important part of high school prom is getting the suitable partner.
So when the prom day was announced by the school authority the greatest question was who is going to be with whom.
Lucky are those who got boyfriend or girlfriend in real life and don't have to go for a "search partner mission".
And to be precise, luck never favored our friends in the story I am going to tell you.
So the profile and relationship status of the four people just 3 days before the prom:
Audrey: Broke up with Jason a week ago. She found him cheating with her on Samantha. Being the school basketball team captain, she is attractive, confident, the type every girl gets jealous of.
Rosalie: Never went through a breakup cause never had an affair in the whole life. Books are the only thing that she has ever checked out and never quite succeeded making a conversation with any guy of her age.
Zachary: The most popular playboy of the school. Girls swoon over him. Then why would he have a problem finding a partner? Apparently all the girls thought that he already had a partner, when in reality he was waiting for someone to ask him. And now three days are left, he is practically dateless because it seems that all the girls have already found someone for themselves.
Everett: Not that he is gay, but was never interested in girls. The always shy type, he generally stayed away from a place which is estrogen-charged.
And the most important part, Audrey and Rosalie are best friends and so are Zachary and Everett.
I had to tell you a brief summary of their characters since this is a short story and not a novel. I won't have time to describe incidents to make you understand their characters.
So, back to our story, all of them had the one question in mind, whom to ask for date.

At the cafeteria:
"Are you sure that they didn't get anyone yet?" Everett asked Zachary while Zachary was busy filling his plate with food. They were at the food counter for lunch.
"Yep. Pretty sure. Who'd be partner with those nerdy and bossy girls?" Zachary chuckled.
Everett remained silent.
"So come let's ask them out." Zach said with enthusiasm.
"Whoa! You gonna ask girls for dance? I should capture the moment in a camera!" Everett said sarcastically before opening the can of juice.
"I won't ask "girls", dude! I'd would ask one girl and you will ask the other. Think! I think I should take a photo of it, isn't it? Maybe I should show it to your parents as a proof that you're not a gay or something..." Zachary laughed hard and managed to earn a death glare from Everett.
(A/N- No offence intended to anyone's sexuality.)"We'll see, let's first finish our food", Everett finally concluded and Zach agreed.

"What? O my god! Ha ha ha ha!" Audrey couldn't control her laughter apparently over a message which someone sent to her phone.
"What happened?" Rosalie asked looking up from her chemistry book.
"Deanna sent me a message. You know, that cocky guy Zach didn't manage to get a date till now..." Audrey said after her laughter got under control.
"So what's so funny? If you remember correctly, we too are partnerless at the moment..." Rosalie said in a matter-of-fact way.
Audrey's smirk vanished with this thought.
