"At this age, everything is changing. Day by day we don't notice, but just look back over the past year and you will realize everything has. People you thought were going to be there forever aren't and people you never thought you'd speak to are now your closest friends. Life makes little sense, and the more you grow the less since it will make. So make the most of it now, before it all changes again, because in the near future , all of this is only going to be memories."

August comes creeping up on you, much like a lion stalking it's prey. Fast and unexpected. School starts again and everyone is scrambling to snag last minute supplies and attempting to cram as much knowledge as they can into their brains before the first day. It happens every year here in Estes Park, Colorado. Though, there are some well-planned people who print the school supply list before registration and also study all summer just to make sure they keep up their good façade. Those people are my best friend Holly and I. Every year, a month before term starts, we print the supply list from our academy's website and purchase everything ahead of time. We even go to the mall for clothes shopping.

I felt a scowl rise on my face as the memory of shopping with Holly arose. Don't get me wrong, I loved Holly as if she were my own blood but dragging me into every store in the mall was a bit to much. I broke myself from my thoughts, focusing my attention back on the TV screen where the Yankees were playing the Cardinals. It was the ninth inning and the Yankees were winning, 2-4. All the bases were loaded and there were ten seconds left in the game. I held my breath as Alex Rodriguez approached the plate, a determined expression on his face. "Come on, Rodriguez." I muttered, leaning forwards slightly as the Cardinals pitcher threw a curve ball. I watched as the dark-haired man swung forward, the ball connecting with the bat with a loud 'crack'. "YES!" I screamed, jumping up from the couch as Didi Gregorius crossed home plate and the game ended.

"Did you really just get that excited over winning?" Holly's voice asked amused, startling me. I spun around quickly, wincing as my left elbow came in contact with the wall. Holly started laughing and soon after, I joined in. We laughed for a few minutes before settling down, a serious expression overcoming Holly's face. "Why aren't you dressed? Couldn't your game wait? You recorded it, you could've watched it after school!" She began ranting, throwing her hands in every which direction. Unfortunately, one of my step-brothers chose to walk in to the living room at this time and got smacked in the nose. I started laughing along with my other step-brother, Tanner who'd just entered the living room as well.

"Nice hit, Roux! Maybe you should join boxing, I'm sure the boys on the team would love to see you beat up an innocent person." Tanner laughed, earning a nasty glare from Holly and a bark of laughter from his older brother. I finally stopped laughing and walked over to Tristan, helping the giant to his feet. He winced as his hand brushed against his nose and from what I could see, it was already turning purple.

"Oh shit," Holly cursed, tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm so sorry! Please don't press charges, I'll bake you a thousand cupcakes. I'll buy you a monkey, or how about-" I clamped a hand over Holly's mouth, happily ending her rambling. Tanner was laughing again and Tristan looked as if he'd just won the lottery. "You'll seriously buy me a monkey? I will name him noodles and feed him bananas so that it confuses my friends! He will wear aviators and explore space with his girlfriend, Cow, who is a giraffe!"

At this point, Tanner was literally rolling on the floor laughing and Holly was staring at my oldest step-brother as if he was nuts. High-five Holly, I sometimes think he is too. I was laughing again, holding onto Holly so that I didn't fall over. "What else, bro? Are you going to buy him clothes from Build-A-Bear Workshop?" Tanner asked after he'd finished laughing, causing a serious expression to cross Tristan's face. He approached his younger brother and gently slapped him across the face with the poptart he had gone to get just before Holly tried to break his nose.

"You shall not speak of Noodles! He is my son and he will not wear bear clothing! He shall wear the clothing I buy from Victoria's Secret so that Cow is turned on and will not leave him! Together, they will create NoodCow and destroy every follower of the Dark Lion!" He growled, causing Tanner and I to go into a laughing fit again. Holly didn't seem to find this funny, because in the next minute or so, she grabbed my arm and practically dragged me up the stairs to my bedroom.

"You're wearing this, this and these. Put them on and come out here so I can do your hair and makeup, I'll be waiting." She ordered, throwing a dress, tights and boots at me. I caught them easily and walked into my bathroom to change. When Holly was like this, it was best to do what she said unless you wanted to end up being the talk of the school for the rest of your high school years. Believe me, it's happened to someone before. It only took my five minutes to change into the simple dress she'd chosen and slid on the white, knee-high socks before I pulled on the ankle booties and exited the bathroom. "Sit," Holly pointed at the vanity my step-father, Adam, insisted I get when I was fifteen. Once again, I did as instructed, wincing every time she'd accidently jerk my brush through my hair. Fifteen minutes later saw the two of us exiting Adam's house and sliding into the silver, Chevrolet Cruze Holly had gotten for her sweet sixteen. We didn't talk at all during the time it took to drive to Granite Academy, where we had attending since freshman year. So to fill the silence, I turned on the radio and let my thoughts take over.
