~Levy*
"Good bye for the last time, Metlicana."
I know those words are the ones that have torn him apart and left him in that pile on the ground in front of me. I still sit here in awe. I just witnessed a fight between a dragon and its dragon slayer counter part. This was a once in a lifetime experiences and it went on in my head.
When my head finally pulls itself out of my butt, I rush over to Gajeel. He shudders in sobs, but I wrap my arms around him as best I can. He's already lost his father twice, now a third by his own hands. I don't know what that feels like, but I know that I have to be there for him like he's been there for me while I was struggling.
"I'm here, Gajeel," I whisper. "I'm here now."
He looks up at me, red eyes dark and red rimmed by the tears that still flow down his face. I've never seen him so hurt.
"I thought he was gone after we destroyed Face," he says between hiccups. "I didn't think I'd have to face him like this or even see him again. Levy, he's gone for sure this time."
"I know Gajeel," I move his wild hair out of his face. "He may be gone but you're still here. We both are. Let's focus on getting out of my head first before we completely lose sight of what we have."
His face shows shock and he curses under his breath. I give him a look of confusion.
"Porlyusica warned me about this," he looks away from me. "She said that even if we defeated the dragon that was terrorizing you in here, there may be more that we would need to do in order to completely get out of here. When we did this, you'd be completely healed and we'd be back in the real world. If we didn't defeat the dragon or get you healed properly, our bodies would be forever stuck in comas and we'd be stuck in your head."
"Did you say healed?"
He looks back at me puzzled, "Yeah, I guess I did."
"Then I know exactly where to go. Did you not realize where you know this meadow from? I think that now that the dragon is gone, we can move beyond the forest. That means-"
"The town we went to get you somewhat healed after the attack," he cuts me off.
I nod and he pulls me into a big hug. I don't think I've ever seen him this happy. I want to get us both back to the real world and out of my head. I know we're only in part of my mind but there are still things in here that scare me and that I wouldn't like him to find out just yet. I can't let him go, but we do need to get going.
"Let's go," he says, wiping his face. "We need to get to that healer. Fast."
I nod, agreeing silently. We both need to get out of here before he sees something I'm not ready for him to see. There's so much I want him to know but I'd like to let him know in my own way.
~Gajeel*
"Let's go," I wipe my face clear of the tears I've shed. "We need to the healer. Fast."
She nods silently, getting up and following me into the treeline. She's incredibly quiet and I wonder what is wrong. I feel like she could be hiding stuff from me. I won't push on that subject, at least not now.
Hiking through this jungle was bad the first time. The heat, humidity, bugs, and my guilt. This time, it's perfect. I guess Levy has somewhat control of what goes on in her head. The trees are tall and block out most of the light while the air is light and cool. No bugs buzz around but I can hear the animals all around us. Thank god it's not totally quiet. I look back to find Levy not meeting my gaze, looking at everything but me.
We make good time making it out of the forest. I can see the small village in the distance and we must make it there.
"I want you on my back," I turn around to look at her. "I want to get there as quick as possible and the only way to do that is to pick you up."
She looks up at me in surprise, but she nods. I lean down and feel her lightness climb up on me. Her small arms wrap around my neck and her legs wrap around my waist as best she can. I grab her hands and take off. A plus of being a dragon slayer is the speed.
We make it halfway to the village when the ground starts to rumble. I wonder what is going on when I see a cloud of dust coming over the land towards us. I can feel Levy try to dissolve into me and I know something bad is coming our direction. I pick up the speed and make it to the village faster than ever.
Familiar faces greet us as they had done in the real world. I quickly find the older woman named Salma who had helped us find the healer Tareef. She smiles warmly, asking if we'd like to sample some of her fruit or maybe buy a piece of jewelry for the lovely lady on my back.
When she knows that's not what we're looking for, in a hushed tone she tells us, "Follow me."
She disappears behind a curtain next to her stand and we follow. I have to set Levy down or else I'd hit her on the doorway. I have to slide in sideways because these people are so small. Most of the people in this village are about Levy's size, give or take a few inches or pounds. I must be a giant to them.
We follow her to a back room where we see the small older man who we came to know as a healer.
"You've come back," Tareef says. His arms wide open as if expecting us to embrace him, "Let me heal you so I can send you on your way, Levy. I know this version of me is only in your head but I know what's been going on."
I look at him in disbelief. I knew he was that kind of person but I didn't realize that it would carry over into Levy's head. He invites us over to sit in front of him. We sit waiting for him to do what he needs.
He indicates for Salma to leave, "You two should go see the me in the real world. I'm sure I'd like to see you alive and well, Levy."
We both nod as he places his hands on Levy's head. He mutters something and within a couple seconds she's gone. He looks over at me, his face a mix of emotions.
"Treat that girl right," he says, "even when she frustrates you. You two have gone through too much without separating. Good bye, Gajeel."
I feel his hands through my hair and I'm instantly back in Porlyusica's tree house. Everyone looks at us in surprise.
I really don't think they had much faith in what we could do.
Sorry that it took so long but I hope you like it.
