"Hello?"

Emilie's voice echoed. The place was just a scary place to be at a time like that. The fifteen-year old walked slowly into the barn; praying she wouldn't trip on something and end up getting herself injured. She just didn't like being there. But she wanted to find him. The barn - that was the first place that came to her mind when she thought of him. Even though she was scared to be there, alone - she didn't care. She just wanted to see him.

The sudden boom of the thunder almost made her jump in surprise. She stared into the dark, her heart beating so fast she feared it would jump out of her chest.

"Emilie?"

She instantly recognized that voice. She breathed a sigh of relief now that she knew he was there with her. She stretched her arms forward, trying to feel her way in the dark. When she'd finally grabbed hold of him, she immediately slammed herself against his body - hugging him tight.

"I knew i'd find you here."

Micah  wrapped his arms around her, whispering softly in her ear.

"You just had to come and find me..."

Emilie pulled away, the widest smile drawn across her face. She chuckled and gave his shoulder a light punch. "Don't i always?" she replied. Then she heard him laugh as he light up a candle. Emilie's heart began to beat fast again now that she could see his face.

"I'm planning to stay here for the night. Care to join?"

The smile he had on - she could just die. She turned to look outside the widely opened door and shrugged.

"It's already raining outside. I guess i have no choice but to stay."

"Excellent!"

"This is actually kind of cool."

Emilie broke the silence, shifting about on the bed made of hays. Micah lied beside her; his eyes staring intently at the ceiling. He had always loved  being there at the barn. Away from his home. Away from his dramatic family members. He just couldn't stand any more of their stupid fights.

The barn was the only place he could find peace. To top it all - his best friend was always there to keep him company.

Micah turned to look at Emilie; a small but charming smile drawn across his boyish face. Emilie's heart skipped a beat the moment she met his gaze. She was hopelessly in love with him. Hopelessly in love. She had fallen for him at the first sight - which was 7 years ago when he first arrived to the small town. But she just couldn't seem to summon the guts to confess it to him.

Friends.

That was all they could ever be. Not unless she tells him. Unfortunately - she couldn't predict what would happen if she did tell him. Would he love her back? Or would he not? It was the thing she feared the most.

"Thanks. For always being here with me."

He suddenly spoke, surprising her a bit. She blinked and watched him as he sat up. She did the same.

"Can you promise me something?" He asked, his voice sounded deeper than the usual.

"What is it?" she replied; struggling to cover her nervousness. He was constantly making her feel anxious and excited. The suspense of it all - it was killing her.

He was then slowly leaning forward; closer by the second. She froze in her position; praying her heart wouldn't jump out of her chest. His lips was just an inch apart from hers now. Her eyes automatically fluttered close when he breathed against her face. The warmth of his breath made her hair stand - making her heart beat even faster.

Then his lips was against hers.

As he parted slowly - she cried a little inside. She wished the kiss was longer. But somehow, it didn't really matter. Even though it only lasted for three seconds, she was satisfied; happy. He was her first kiss.

She was his.

"Promise me.. You'll be my best friend - forever."

Emilie's heart stopped when the words left his lips. Best friend? She blinked; her fingers slowly tracing her lips that he had just kissed. She almost couldn't believe what he had just said.

What was the kiss about? Was it some kind of an act as an agreement to the promise? What is going on here?

Emilie's mind questioned - causing her to be even more confused.

She only nodded in response; her tongue was completely tied.

He was then smiling widely  as he pulled her into a hug.

"Then i promise to be yours."

Now - now it was awkward.
