All there was was darkness. A place in which time seemed suspended. A million years goes by in a single second. It felt as if he had always been there. It felt as though he had only just gotten there. But none of that matters now, for he had opened his eyes at long last.

Imagine living in a dark room your entire life, and then someone suddenly turns on a very, very bright light. The brightness pierces your naked eyes, but they stay wide open. Why? Who knows? Perhaps you're just so surprised you can't bring yourself to shut them. His bright green eyes stayed wide open for quite a while, staring at that bright light.

As his heart was beating blood and his lungs were pumping air, his brain started thinking thoughts.

"Where am I? Where are the others? What happened? Why is it so cold? Am I... wearing any clothes?" He started to look around the room. There seemed to be other people around. He was gradually becoming more and more able to hear their voices. He turned his head and watched as their faces came into focus. Then another thought hit his mind.

"I'm human."

With that realization, the breath in his lungs and the blood in his veins, the nerves running all through his body, the smells, the sounds, the sights, they all felt more... lively. More real. He was human. Which means that he can walk, talk, eat, breathe, live.

"C-communicate with them! If they're people, then... maybe they know where I am."

"mnnghh..." That seemed to capture their attention. But if he wants to say anything, he must speak actual words. "Nnnnn-aahh..."

"H-he's - is he trying to - he's making noise!" stuttered Dr. Lornan.

"W-wahhnn... wh-oww..." He squinted at the bright lights and instinctively tried to raise his arm over his eyes for shade, but couldn't, as his arm was strapped down to the table.

"Is something wrong? How do you feel? Are you trying to say something?" inquired Dr. Lisa.

"Z... ch... Xa-n... Xan. That is... me?"

Dr. Lisa's face lit up as she began to exclaim, "Xan! Y-yes! That's you! Number 24, Xan, that certainly is you! Ahaaa! Ahaha! It really did work, the programming really worked! Look Lornan! He knows his name! Xan knows his name!"
