What if something bad happened?

That was the only thing Alexandra could think about for the past two weeks.

He said it would only be a week. What happened?

Alexandra's boyfriend, Pietro, had been gone for three weeks now and S.H.I.E.L.D wouldn't tell her anything regarding his whereabouts. She decided to stop trying to get info from them earlier during the day.

She worried constantly that something had gone terribly wrong on his mission.

What if-

A loud collection of laughter snapped her from panicked thoughts. Reruns of Whose Line Is It Anyway were on TV. Alexandra remembered the reason she turned it on in the first place was to maybe cheer her up, distract her from her thoughts about Pietro. It didn't seem to work.

Soon, she drifted off to sleep in front of the TV.

----------------------------------------------

"One week? I think I can deal with that." She told Pietro optimistically.

Pietro chuckled, "I'd hope so." He gave Alexandra one of his little smirks, giving her butterflies in her stomach. Even though they'd been together for a while now, she still got butterflies whenever he did that.

Alexandra smiled and held her arms out for a hug. "One more?" She pleaded to him.

Pietro smiled and happily obliged, "Alright, one more." He wrapped his arms around her, and she was glad he was still here, but she suddenly felt a twinge of sadness. Pietro made her feel safe and secure, and now he was going. Sure, he went on missions often, but they were usually a few days at most.

Alexandra sighed into his chest and quietly told him, "I love you, Pietro."

"I love you too." He replied and hugged her a little tighter. There was a knock at the door, and Pietro sighed. "I have to go..." He pulled back and looked his girlfriend in the eyes.

She wouldn't make eye contact with him, for fear of losing her calm demeanor, but he lifted her face up, and tears came to her eyes.

Pietro smiled softly at her and went in for a kiss, but there was another knock at the door, followed by someone shouting for him.

He sighed angrily and kissed Alexandra's cheek as a goodbye instead.

Pietro headed towards the door to leave. He looked back, only for a moment, to give Alexandra a sad smile. Then he was gone.

----------------------------------------------

Alexandra was pulled out of her blissful sleep by an usually loud laugh track from the television.

She laughed at one of the skits on the show, but quickly fell back into her sad feelings. She sat up just as she heard something move behind the couch.

Then something happened. Something she didn't expect. She heard him.

"I never understood why this show was so funny to you..." She froze at the sound of his Sokovian accent.

She turned slowly to see Pietro standing a few feet behind the couch.

No expression, just standing. Alexandra shot up off the couch and covered her mouth.

He's here. He's home.

Tears started streaming down her cheeks and she slowly walked towards Pietro. But against her will, her legs gave out beneath her.

But Alexandra never hit the floor. She noticed Pietro's strong arms holding her as he lowered to the floor. All she could do was stare at him.

"Thank God you're not dead!" She said, barely above a whisper.

He wrapped his arms tightly around Alexandra, and she cried as she wrapped her arms around him also.

"I couldn't just leave you like that. I would never." He told her reassuringly in his accent that she loved so much.

He was finally safe. He was finally home.
