The event was in two days and Jungkook had already told Taehyung that he would pick him up. As the day arrived, Jungkook felt both excited and nervous. It had been so long since he last saw Taehyung.
Dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, he adjusted his coat before pressing the doorbell. In his hands was a bouquet, almost like he was taking Taehyung on a date. But to Jungkook, every moment spent with his husband was a date.
When Taehyung opened the door, his breath caught. He had spent the last two days panicking—about the event, about what to wear, about facing Jungkook again. Why was Jungkook doing all of this when their divorce was just around the corner?
"You didn't have to bring that," Taehyung said, looking at the bouquet in Jungkook's hand.
"I just wanted to do it right," Jungkook replied, handing him the beautiful white tulips.
Taehyung frowned as he took the flowers, then turned to find a vase to place them in. Once he was done, Jungkook extended his hand toward him. "Shall we?"
Taehyung let out a small sigh before hesitantly placing his hand in Jungkook's.

As expected, the event venue was extravagant. Taehyung recognised a few people but still felt oddly out of place, especially when his eyes landed on Jungkook's father. After all, this was nothing more than a game between father and son.
Jungkook stayed close to him the entire time, his hand resting on the small of Taehyung's back. Every now and then, he stroked it gently, as if sensing his nervousness.
For a brief moment, Jungkook had to step away to greet a few important clients, leaving Taehyung alone. He barely had time to collect his thoughts before someone stepped beside him.
"I heard you signed the divorce papers," a familiar voice said.
Taehyung turned to see the man. "Yes, I did."
"Why? I thought you two had something real."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile playing on his lips. "Oh? Is that why you convinced my best friend to praise about Jungkook on your behalf?"
Yoongi let out a short laugh. "I never asked him to say anything. I only told the truth about Jungkook, how much he cares about you. How much he lo—" He suddenly stopped, clearing his throat when a few people approached to greet him. Quickly excusing himself, he walked ahead.
Taehyung's gaze shifted back to Jungkook, who was still deep in conversation with others. Of course, as the president of the company, he had to be everywhere, greeting everyone. Feeling the weight of it all—the event, the rich ass people, the charade—Taehyung quietly slipped away to the washroom.
Inside the washroom, Taehyung leaned against the sink, gripping the edges tightly. He stared at his reflection, trying to compose himself. The night felt too overwhelming. Jungkook's presence, the whispered conversations. Everything was suffocating.
He turned on the tap, splashing cold water on his face, hoping to wash away the thoughts swirling in his mind. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart. The night was exhausting, and being around Jungkook only made things harder. He wiped his face with a tissue, fixing his expression before stepping out of the washroom.
As Taehyung stepped back into the event hall, his eyes immediately landed on Jungkook. He was laughing, his smile radiant as he spoke with a beautiful young woman. She exuded wealth from head to toe. From her designer dress, luxury handbag, diamond studded heels, and the striking blood ruby necklace around her neck all screamed opulence.
