Chapter 1

"Hey, Maddi, you coming to the mall after School? I'll buy you a present" My best friend, Isobella tried to persuade me, while we were sitting under our favourite tree, eating lunch
"Nah, it's my mum's anniversary today" I reminded her
"Then she'll be happy to get rid of you, if you know what I mean" she said, winking, Isobella is very tall, has long, strawberry blond hair, which was done up in a plait, vibrant green eyes, a quirky sense of humor, like almost all my other friends, an English accent and a dirty mind " and besides, it's your birthday, I'm pretty sure she'll let you do whatever you want"
"Isobella," hissed Jakob, smacking her up the back of the head "her mum is dead" Jakob has dark brown hair that has natural light brown highlights, he is quite short, very strong, has dull, stormy, blue eyes, a slightly crooked nose and is quite tanned
"Oh my god!!!!!! I'm sooo sorry, I didn't mea-" Isobella said, getting interrupted by me
"Isobella, its fine" I insisted "Come on, it's time to go to class" I said, hearing the siren go, signaling the end of lunch and the start of Period 5.
When Isobella finally stopped apologising, I made my way to my locker to get my English books then head off to class.
"How nice of you to join us, Miss Lumbree" said my teacher when I walked into class, 10 minutes late "Did you forget where the class was?"
"No sir," I said "I just lost track of time"
"Hurry up and sit down"
"Yes sir" I mumbled, heading to the back of the room where there were some spare desks, I sat down as far away from other people as I could, the closest person to me was a girl with red hair, who was about three desks away from me.
After a few minutes of English I zoned out and started daydreaming about my mum, when the siren went, the lesson only seemed to go for 5 minutes, I snaped out of my daydream and the only person in English that is even remotely nice to me, walked past me, handed me a tissue and walked out of class. I got up very quickly after that and hurried to the bathroom and I saw that I'd been crying, I wiped my face and walked to my next class, chemistry, like nothing at all had hapened.
When I got to Chemistry I was late, again, I headed to my table, which was the only empty one, and sat down.
"Ok class, today we are doing an experiment, we will be mixing chemicals to see if they precipitate but be careful not to mix ones that I don't tell you to" said Ms Karsolvi sternly "if you do I will kick you out and you will be sent to the principal's office. One of the pair at each table, come and get the beakers, the other person will come and put the specified amounts of each chemical in each beaker, then follow the instructions that are in your book, chapter 2.5, page 8, and write the results in your table. Off you go"
Everyone started rushing around, getting their things, i slowly got up and headed over to the beakers and collected 5, then headed over to the chemicals and put 100 mls of each in each beaker, then I went back to my bench, forgetting to mark the beakers to show which chemical is which.
I started mixing the chemicals, not really paying attention to what I was doing, until I heard a sizzling sound. I looked down at my work to see that the chemicals that I'd just mixed were bubbling. I picked the beaker up and hurried to the sink, gaining the attention of everyone in the room, then poured the solution down the sink.
"Maddison, go to the principals office" the teacher told me sternly
I walked out of the principal's office an hour later and started walking to the cemetery. I sighed when I walked past the mall and thought about Isobella, Stephanie and Bethany dragging their boyfriends along to the mall with them, Stephanie has long, wavy, chocolate brown hair, which she almost always wore down, a fair complexion, grey eyes and she is anorexic, even though pretty much everything about her screams perfect. I could just see her looking through the clothes, trying to improve herself.
After I went to the cemetery I headed home to the orphanage, where the nuns had been looking after me until they found a blood relative or someone came to adopt me. When I walked in the door, Sister Lisa greeted me
"Hello Maddison, how has today been for you?"
"Today has been very good to me, Sister Lisa" I told her "May I please be excused from dinner, I must do the customary fasting for today to show my love for my departed mothers soul"
"Of course you may my dear, I fully understand your situation, now, go get cleaned up and ready for bed."
"Thank you Sister Lisa, goodnight Sister Lisa"
I headed up the stairs and nodded to all the nuns that were on their way down to dinner. I reached my room, just as the last girl was leaving and did all the necessities before bed, hopped into bed and fell asleep straight away.
