Bridget's POV
"Why do we have to go to a carnival now?" Crystal whined,
"Its like sub-zero outside."
"Its not sub-zero," Dylan scoffed, crossing his arms,
"Its 54 degrees outside. The warmest its been all month." Crystal glared at him, and slung a red scarf around her neck,
"Whatever."
"I think it'll be fun." I added, raising my eyebrows. The school was hosting a winter carnival, there'd be games, food, and rides, all the proceedings going to orphanages in Taiwan.
"Yeah," Daniel smiled at me,
"Its going to be fun, because we're going."
"You too?" Crystal cried,
"Fine. If I get frost bite, your thawing out my fingers."
"Cool it, Drama Queen." Dylan rolled his eyes and opened the front door, we all filed out still listening to Crystal's complaining. The four of us piled into Crystal's truck, squeezing me inbetween Dylan and Daniel, since the both of them insisted on sitting next to me.
"What do you wanna do first? You know, when we get there?" Daniel asked, after a long while of not saying anything.
"Food." I announced immediately. Laughter filled the truck, the gut busting nice kind. I couldn't help but smile, we were all back together, I missed this.Daniel pushed up the sleeves of his hoodie, my little message was still there--fading, like his scars. Eventually Crystal found a parking spot, after a good 15 minutes of circling the rows of cars. Daniel tugged me out of the truck, resulting in several irritated glances from Dylan.
"It'll be okay." I mouthed back to him, as I pulled me away by hand towards the entrance. Dylan and Crystal followed a couple feet behind, Daniel seemed to be oblivious towards the daggers Dylan was sending him, or he just didn't care. The rides were lit up as night fell, the smell of hot dogs filled the air along with the drilling sound of roller coasters and the buzz of laughter.1 hour later
The four of us had played nearly every game at the carnival, stopped twice for food, and even went on a couple of roller coasters. Not me, of course--it was more Crystal and Daniel, god knows how I hate heights, and unstable moving structures. When they went on roller coasters, Daniel and I walked around mostly, talking about anything and everything. I fell away from the group as we left a cotton candy stand, and wandered over to a game with a gigantic teddy bear hanging from its shelf of prizes.
"I need to put a leash on you." Dylan lectured, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind. I grunted in discontent, still gazing up at the bear.
He rested his head against the curve of my neck, as Daniel walked up beside us. He flipped a couple tickets out and gave them to the guy at the desk. Crystal plopped down in front of the water gun next to Daniel's.
"Alright," The guy sighed, sounding bored,
"You aim the water gun at the target, the first one to get their person to the finish line, wins a prize." The bored guy rang the bell as Daniel's little person ran across the finish line.
"We have a winner!" He said in mock enthusiasm, before gesturing towards the shelf of prizes. My insides practically squealed as Daniel pointed to the huge stuffed bear, he turned to me, smiling.
"Omigosh! Thank you!" I cried, pulling the bear into my arms and burying my face into its warm fur.
"This water gun," Crystal pointed to the one she'd been using, the guy raised a disinterested eyebrow,
"Yeah, its broken, man." Dylan sighed loudly, clearly dissatisfied as he draped an arm across my shoulders.
"What's wrong?" I asked curiously, switching the gigantic bear onto my other hip. Dylan switched his gaze over to me, pouting,
"I don't know, you're giving that bear more attention than me." Crystal snorted from behind me, and began laughing, her shoulders shaking in rhythm. I laughed too,
"You can't possibly be jealous of a bear, could you?"
"Nope," Daniel announced, clapping a hand over my shoulder,
"Just jealous cause he wasn't the guy who gave it to you."
"You're so whipped, bro." Crystal said after her laughter winded down. I scanned the other games, and pointed to another.
"Look, a kissing booth." I said, with no intentions of going over there. I was just curious to what Dylan's reaction would be.The booth was bright pink, the windows lined with fluffy pink hearts hanging from wire, the guy who stood there was undoubtedly good looking: sandy blonde hair, blue eyes.
"How about no." Both Dylan and Daniel steered me away from the booth while Crystal stripped out of the puffy jacket she'd carried along.
"How about yes," Crystal ran a hand through her hair and walked over to him, leaning up against the post, bored.
"I'll meet you guys at the front gate, alright?" She waved with her fingers.
"Good luck." I called, getting the blonde guy's attention with my shouting.
"Honestly, I think you'll need it more than me." Crystal shouted back, before strutting over and leaning against the bar of the booth. Daniel shook his head and laughed,
"She's insane."
"Come on--" I turned, smacking Dylan with the bear in the process. He winced, and mumbled something about a shredder. I just smiled, and pretended not to notice.
